13 Scary Books, TV shows, and Movies that all terrified me
1. Alien. There are few movies I’ve ever walked out of. The re-release of this one is one of them. It was sooooooo creepy. Scary. Intense. The big screen made it more so and I was a big ball of nerves so I wound up leaving. I did eventually finish watching it. Boy, what a ride. It’s one of the things on my list that I don’t really rewatch.
2. It. Pennywise the clown. “They float. They all float down here.” Tim Curry made the movie version of Pennywise absolutely sinister. The book gave me reason to never go near a sewer drain again. I re-read it recently. Gave my youngest nightmares just from the cover.
3. The Walking Dead. This show is so engrossing and well, gross. I have zombie dreams while it’s on. I can’t go downstairs without turning on the lights. But I’m there every week watching the episodes.
4. The Boogeyman from Night Shift by Stephen King. I really never wanted to close my closet door after reading that story…
5. Scream. “It’s a scream baby…” I watch it whenever it’s on TV. Yet when I hear noises downstairs while it’s playing, I’ve been known to run upstairs to bed.
6. Salem’s Lot by Stephen King. One of my first introductions to vampires. The idea of a vampire trying to come in your window made any outside noises suspect.
7. The Mist (in Skeleton Crew) by Stephen King. I love that story. The creepy tentacles in the back of the store gave me so many nightmares. I had dreams about living in the world. The movie was okay, but I’m more a fan of the story. It’s another one I re-read.
8. The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen. My friend told me to read this book, that he’d had to check his closets after reading it. And yeah, I did too. It’s a book with nothing paranormal and that makes it all the more terrifying in a lot of ways.
9. The Amityville Horror. I read the book. Didn’t sleep well for days after. A demonic pig like creature with glowing red eyes. *shudders*
10. It. The original movie and not by Stephen King. I’ve never watched the whole thing. Just watch to the dog scene and lose it every time. Another one that I don’t seek out.
11. The Wizard of Oz. Flying monkeys. Enough said. Used to try and watch it every year. Took a few tries before I could.
12. Hush episode from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While it has funny moments, the Gentlemen are creepy as can be. The way they float and chase Tara.
13. The Raft by Stephen King. College kids trapped on a raft by an oil spill that’s come to life? Only Stephen King could make that creepy. You don’t know exactly what’s under the raft. But it’s a scary prospect.
Yep, it’s Stephen King heavy…

Big fan of Stephen King books, enjoy reading horror books, have trouble with some of the movies though. Enjoy the Walking Dead, though I don’t follow it closely. Enjoyed reading the excerpt from Winter’s Gamble, sounds like a really great story.
Halloween candy is not the only treats I’m after
Salem’s Lot, The Amityville Horror are great ones. Witchboard and The Haunting are good ones too. Winter”s Gamble sounds like a good book. Thanks for sharing the book and the spooky. evamillien at gmail dot com
I am not a scary movie fan, but I do not mind scary and creepy in my reading. 😉
Happy October!
Hi Mechele 🙂
Winter’s Gamble looks great! I Gotta get my hands on it 8D
Cool scary choices!
I read Stephen King’s It and saw the movie too. Tim Curry stole the movie, his Pennywise the alien clown was down right scary!
I’m kinda into horror movies, one of my favorites was Black Sunday, a lesser known movie about a witch & re-incarnation (The Iron Maiden scene is GROSS!).

Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My.
Didn’t really know what to write, LoL.
It was pretty scary as was the Hush episode. For Dr. Who fans, the Angel episodes are scary too. I prefer a little humor with my horror like the original Fright Night with Wm. Ragsdale and Roddy Mac Dowell.

The Shining was a scary one the first time I viewed it. I usually don’t read these kinds of scary books but I did like Cujo.
To be honest, I spend a lot of time avoiding stuff that I know will scare me 😉 Call me chicken (bok bok!) but I’ve found that I have such a hard time erasing images from my mental screen that it’s just best not to get them in there in the first place… but the scary stories are often so compelling 😉 Happy October!
Love all the responses! Keep them coming.
Thanks JeanMP! The Walking Dead keeps me on my toes.
Rolanda, here’s hoping you find tricks and treats! ;>)
Thanks Eva Millien. I will have to check those out!
Happy October Colleen C! I do both scary in reading and watching. Sometimes I don’t know why…
Thanks Mina Gerhart. Tim Curry did steal the show. I will have to check that out.
Never seen it DebraG. Will have to check it out though I think the commercials creeped me out…
Mary M, sometimes I wonder why I watch/read especially after a vivid nightmare.
Lynsi S LOL. Hey it fits!
Arrrgh! Anne, I can’t believe I forgot about the weeping angels. OMG. Yes Blink was such a creepy episode. My girls no longer look at statues the same way.
Joye, I usually enjoy anything Stephen King 🙂
