Would you believe?
Jillian Drew is a criminal profiler, grounded and analytical. But deep inside, she fears the intuitive abilities she’s possessed all her life. She’s done everything possible to turn her back on her psychic insight. But now her eccentric sister has been abducted, and nothing in her criminology background has prepared Jillian for that tragedy—or for Benton Walker, the ghost of a sexy soldier, and the only witness to Amy’s abduction.
Fearful of the brazen specter, Jillian nevertheless needs his help and she’ll do anything to get it. But nothing is as it seems, and Benton’s soul hangs in the balance. Uncovering centuries old secrets could either save him—or have dangerous consequences for them both.
*This book is a revised version based on Gatekeeper, previously published by Ellora’s Cave, Inc.
Excerpt:
She wanted to touch him, to feel him. And above all, she wanted to know what it would be like to kiss a ghost—to kiss him.
Her gaze lingered on his beautiful parted lips. So sensuous. So seductive. Just one kiss. Did she dare ask?
She didn’t have to.
Lithe and soundless, as if he’d read her thoughts, he closed the distance between them. There was no mistaking the fire in his eyes. Deftly, he pulled the band from her hair, letting the loose black waves fall in a tumult around her face. “So beautiful, so natural.” His voice was whisper-soft as he admired his handiwork for a moment, entwining a lock around his index finger.
Jillian’s pulse ran wild. He moved dangerously closer. She burned with anticipation. He was going to kiss her and waiting for it was the most intense mixture of heaven and hell she had ever known in her life. Her eyelids drifted shut. Her body sang with expectation.
His mouth brushed hers once, twice, softly, maddeningly. “Tell me you don’t want me to touch you now.” His voice was low and raw. “Tell me, Jillian.”
Nothing but a whimper escaped her lips.
And then his mouth was on hers, hard and hot. His long, lean body pressed hers into the multitude of pillows. The towel between them proved a frustrating barrier but there was no mistaking the male hardness urging against her, his clothes and her towel the only barriers between them. All coherent thought fled as she opened her mouth to his, reveling in the feeling of his body tensing and shuddering above hers.
Wantonly, she opened her legs wider, admitting him. Inviting him. He groaned into her mouth. One arm tightened around her shoulders, his hand burrowed into the hair at the nape of her neck, the other sliding under her hips, lifting her against him. Another hoarse groan emanated from his mouth and his kiss deepened. His lips bruised hers with need. Jillian couldn’t get enough. His tongue delved into her mouth and then retreated only to push between her lips once more.
Her pulse accelerated. This could happen. This was happening. Gone was the horror that this man had lived over a century and a half ago, that he wasn’t even a living, breathing person. Gone were all her feeble rationalizations against allowing this to continue. All that mattered was here. Now. The emotions rioting inside her.
