Jaded immortal Joseph Carlisle has only one thing on his mind; his sworn duty to protect the hybrid from those who wish her harm. Anything else would be complicated. That is until they meet.
Chemistry sizzles between them but there’s a problem—the hybrid’s curse. Cami’s touch, skin to skin, proves near fatal to her and all immortals, Joseph included.

EXCERPT
Cami Wilson, the hybrid he was sworn to protect, had aroused him more than any other woman, and he hadn’t even kissed her yet.
Dammit!
Therein was the problem. He couldn’t kiss her, and he couldn’t touch her, not intimately. The sobering thought brought him thundering back to reality.
For them to be near each other was toxic—she’d proved it by her heated reaction. She was sexy and passionate, like an exotic flower about to burst into bloom, but she appeared incapable of accepting the grim repercussions. It was his responsibility to stop this before it got out of hand. What if he’d gone further and touched her exposed skin, kissed her pale, inviting neck? Could he ever forgive himself for causing her untold pain? What if his touch was too much for her to bear and it had killed her?
At that moment he despised himself for what he had to do.
He ground his molars and shoved her away, even though his body implored otherwise, even though it went against everything his heart screamed at him.
Chest heaving, her eyes flashed open. ‘Joseph…?’
‘Stop, Cami,’ he uttered, his voice ragged, laced with regret. ‘I can’t do this.’
She stared back. Thick lashes glistened with tears, her head shook in denial.
His hands fisted. ‘Answer me truthfully, would you be able to settle for this? Never going further than a touch through a damn fabric barrier?’ He couldn’t, and the desire in her eyes, ablaze like tiny green flames, implied she couldn’t either.
‘We can work it out, please, Joseph,’
Her plea crushed his heart, but his face hardened and he moved away from her, determined to make her see the truth no matter how much it tortured him. ‘No. It could kill you. I will not let that happen.’
She blinked. Tears trickled from emerald-green pools onto flushed cheeks. ‘What are we going to do?’
‘Nothing,’ he replied, the effort of sounding devoid of emotion too painful to bear. But bear it he must—for her. ‘I’m still your guardian. Nothing’s changed.’
She swiped at the tears. ‘Joseph, please…’ Her voice broke.
He didn’t reply. How could he when another word would have him begging for her forgiveness?
Hatred flashed in her eyes and a second later, she fled from his room.
Her parting image slashed across his mind like a vicious scar, would be with him for all his immortal years.
Please come back, my love.
The ground caved beneath his feet and he crumpled to his knees. She hated him. The thought ravished his soul and tore at his heart, but if it was the price to he had pay to protect her, so be it.
Then why the hell did it feel so wrong?
