In it authors share 8-10 sentences from their work.<\/p>\nThis week’s excerpt from Captain’s Mercy picks up where the last one left off. It’s Mercy’s first day with the Barnes family and Jonah Barnes continues to exhibit almost rude behavior. He’s not even bothering to look at her during a conversation.<\/p>\n
Excerpt:<\/strong><\/p>\n It was as if he couldn\u2019t be bothered. She wasn\u2019t a scullery maid, so far beneath him he couldn\u2019t lay eyes on her. If he disliked her so much, she couldn\u2019t fathom why he had chosen her to be his sister\u2019s companion. He obviously cared about Faith quite deeply.<\/p>\n \u201cYes, thank you, sir,\u201d she replied.<\/p>\n He didn\u2019t respond, and all three remained silent for several moments during which Faith\u2019s gaze flickered from her brother to Mercy and back again.<\/p>\n Finally, Faith said, \u201cDinner will be served in a few minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cGood.\u201d Jonah folded the letter, gathered the rest of the post, and stood abruptly. With encouragement from Faith, she begins her first novel, an erotic adventure featuring a hero modeled after Jonah. When pages from it go missing, she fears that her gruff employer will discover the nature of her feelings for him and possibly dismiss her. That might be for the best, because if she stays, her attachment to the Barnes family could endanger her life.<\/p>\n Note: Captain\u2019s Mercy was previously published.
