Starr sagged into him, lost in his heat and strength. Bad move for someone who claimed to want peace and solitude, but she couldn\u2019t help herself. She had needed to taste him for twelve years, dreamed of his stubble rasping her cheeks, his tongue deep within her mouth, possessing her.<\/span><\/div>\n
He eased her closer, his grip steel, unwilling to let her go. He drove his fingers into her hair and cupped her skull, keeping her still in order to plunder her mouth.<\/span><\/div>\n
A whimper rose to the base of her throat, the sound muffled by his tongue and the blood pounding in her ears. Never had she been as alive, her body molded to his, fitting perfectly. God, she wanted to drown in his effortless masculinity, laze in his kindness.<\/span><\/div>\n
Whatever she wanted, he\u2019d said.<\/span><\/div>\n
This, for now. Later, who knew?<\/span><\/div>\n
He\u2019d hurt her beyond words years before. She understood he hadn\u2019t meant to. However, the pain had lingered and grown, leaving her unsure about men. She\u2019d never had a father to teach her how guys thought or behaved, only Wylder. He\u2019d been her instructor without realizing he was even playing the role. She came to expect every guy to be like him, running from her as he had, leaving her uncertain and lonely.<\/span><\/div>\n
Kade had been different, his intensity a comfort rather than setting off alarms. What a fool she\u2019d been. No more. She had to take things slow no matter what her heart and body wanted.<\/span><\/div>\n
Wylder ran his thumb over her throat, pulling a new moan from her. Forgetting control, she sucked his tongue deeper, not yet content, wanting to be a part of his heart, blood, and soul. Would she ever have enough?<\/span><\/div>\n
She\u2019d followed him to his job, this store, and Gee\u2019s, hoping to get some relief from her endless craving rather than whetting her appetite for more. At least Wylder hadn\u2019t laughed at her foolish stalking. If he had, she would have died even more inside. Instead, he\u2019d made himself available, almost too visible as he\u2019d never had in the past.<\/span><\/div>\n
Because he was a changed man, she a changed woman, things could work out.<\/span><\/div>\n
In time.<\/span><\/div>\n
She pulled her mouth free again, her lips stinging from the force of their kiss.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cUh-uh, we\u2019re not through.\u201d He brought her right back, practically devouring her, the same as she did with him, her leg wrapped around his, arms wreathed over his shoulders, the noises they made sloppy, joyous, uncontrolled.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cAh, guys?\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
She froze. He didn\u2019t, grunting and groaning. With her palm on his chest, she pushed him back, freeing herself. Quickly, she smoothed her hair on the left side.<\/span><\/div>\n
A friend of her mom glanced past her to him and gestured to the candy rack. \u201cI just need the gumdrops and I\u2019ll be on my way.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
Wylder pulled every pack off the metal pole and handed them to her.<\/span><\/div>\n
She smiled wanly. \u201cThanks.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cWelcome.\u201d He snaked his arm around Starr\u2019s waist again.<\/span><\/div>\n
She elbowed his gut.<\/span><\/div>\n
His breath puffed out. He dropped his arm. \u201cWhat was that for?\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cEnough of the kissing. All right?\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cHell no.\u201d He crowded her.<\/span><\/div>\n
She stood her ground and lifted her chin. Her days of being a pushover for any man were history.<\/span><\/div>\n
His shoulders drooped. He gave her one of those don\u2019t-be-mad-at-me smiles guys used at one time or another to get their way.<\/span><\/div>\n
She wasn\u2019t moved.<\/span><\/div>\n
He sobered. \u201cYou want to go outside?\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cNo.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cWhere?\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cHome.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cWhose?\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cMine.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
His eyebrows shot up. \u201cYour mom\u2019s there, right?\u201d He scratched his neck. \u201cWon\u2019t she mind if we, uh, you know\u2026.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
He didn\u2019t need to draw her a picture. \u201cNo, she won\u2019t mind, because we aren\u2019t going to.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
His shoulders slumped again. \u201cYou mean today, right?\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
Hell, he was asking her as though she knew. \u201cI wanted to kiss you. That\u2019s all.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cWait.\u201d He held up his hand, grew thoughtful, and stared. \u201cSince you have kissed me, you don\u2019t want to anymore,\u00a0ever<\/i>? Was I that bad?\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
Her legs were still wobbly, her insides and brain reduced to mush. She was still using all her will to retain her dignity. If she hadn\u2019t, she would have dropped to the floor, drooling like the unhinged. \u201cSeriously, you need to ask?\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
His cheeks reddened. \u201cOnly with you.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
Because she mattered or because she hadn\u2019t given him two thumbs up? \u201cI have to go.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
He grabbed her wrist. \u201cWhy? We can have a beer, take a walk, talk.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
Not with her tangled thoughts, they couldn\u2019t. They\u2019d end up in his room, humping away. Gee\u2019s patrons would hear every whap of the bed against the floor and wall. She was already tense whenever the pack members spotted her, not knowing what they might say. Adding more gossip wouldn\u2019t help. Once her and Wylder\u2019s kiss in here zipped through the town\u2019s supersonic grapevine, everyone would be looking at her as though she had three heads instead of two, like they were currently doing.<\/span><\/div>\n
She yanked her arm away. \u201cBye.\u201d She fled the building and raced past the vehicles in the lot, reaching the road.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cStarr Joseph, stop, I mean it!\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
She jerked at Wylder\u2019s shout and turned.<\/span><\/div>\n
He was yards away, sunlight glancing off his silky hair, the rays glinting in his light eyes. His eyebrows and stubble were nearly black, his skin rich and fragrant, the scent drifting toward her with the breeze.<\/span><\/div>\n
She bit back a wanton moan.<\/span><\/div>\n
He pointed his finger at her. \u201cYou\u2019re my mate, understand? Sooner or later\u2014and I predict much, much sooner\u2014we are getting together. Believe it.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
