\"\"<\/a>When you’re brainstorming for a new story, what usually comes first for you, the plot or the characters?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I usually think up the plot lying in bed in the middle of the night \u2013 don\u2019t ask me why. I use an Excel file to outline the plot, giving my characters names and listing their details, and I leave space for a word count chapter by chapter.\u00a0 I have made mistakes with characters\u2019 names, managing to correct the mistake at the last moment.<\/p>\n

When you’re writing, who is more in control, you or your characters?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I like to think that I\u2019m in control when I start writing but sometimes my characters take over before the end of the book, and that might even mean a change of or variation in the plot.<\/p>\n

What do you feel are some of the pros and cons of indie publishing?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The biggest headache with Indie writing is developing your brand name or your author name. This takes some time and planning, and a lot of hard work.\u00a0 Very few authors are sales or marketing experts.<\/p>\n

What do you like best about writing erotic romance?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have written several historical novels where the characters, kings, queens, rajas, etc. don\u2019t have a sex life, which is nonsense. So in my last historical novel I started bringing is at least a little romance between my characters \u2013 they went through arranged marriages, they had children, they ate meals \u2013 didn\u2019t they?<\/p>\n

Do you find it harder to write novels or short stories?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I prefer to write novellas, about 25k to 30k words, although I have published two sets of short stories, with a common background, but probably totaling the 25k or 30k word count. My historical novels are much longer.<\/p>\n

\"AMDreaming<\/a>Would you tell us about your latest release?<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the beginning of March I published \u201cDreaming\u2026\u201d but I don\u2019t want to give away the plot. Just say that a man working in a war torn area suddenly meets a lady with auburn hair and brown green eyes who attracts him, but there aren\u2019t any fancy dinners, or dances, just down to earth the two of them working together.\u00a0 The URL links for Dreaming\u2026 at Smashwords and Amazon is https:\/\/www.smashwords.com\/books\/view\/619462<\/u><\/a> and<\/p>\n

What are you working on now?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve already published two thrillers, and I\u2019ve just started a third. This one is bit different as I\u2019ve introduced a stronger love interest into the plot.\u00a0 I cannot reveal much more, but just to say parts of the novel will be terrifying, and bloody, but I don\u2019t have a title yet.<\/p>\n

\"AMBodyHeat-lg<\/a>What are a few of your favorite book covers that have been done for your books?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oh definitely BODY HEAT, which is based on a television series Naked and Afraid.<\/p>\n

If you could step into one of your books, which one would it be?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ll go back to BODY HEAT as I\u2019ve always fancied spending several days in a very remote area with limited resources, and a love interest.<\/p>\n

Would you tell us about yourself?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve spent all my working life in developing countries in sub-Saharan Africa and then south and south-east Asia, mainly working with farmers helping them with crop production and animal management. My specialty was sustainable development, which might also include village clean water supply, and management.<\/p>\n

When you’re not writing, what do you like to do?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I live in a house with a large roof garden, and spend a lot of my time there. I like growing flowers with a perfume, which is more difficult than it sounds.<\/p>\n

How long have you been writing?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I started writing novels back in 1996, when I was living and working in Sri Lanka, which is reason why several of my novels are based there, and then here in Vietnam after I retired from project work three years ago. Eight of my novellas are based in Africa in places where I lived and know about.<\/p>\n

Name three fictional characters (not your own) that you find hot. They can be from books, movies, or TV.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oh, without a doubt Monica Bellucci, and before her Sophia Loren. These aren\u2019t actually fictional characters, but the type of roles they play in films are.<\/p>\n

What is your favorite season?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The autumn \u2013 the season of mellow fruitfulness.<\/p>\n

What is the last movie you watched?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Discovery programs on TV. I particularly like the survival series.<\/p>\n

What is your favorite comfort food?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A cup of tea, with milk and sugar.
