He had the look of a fox approaching the hen house. He wanted what was inside, but wasn\u2019t sure what might be lying in wait. She put a smile in her voice to put him at ease. \u201cI\u2019m listening.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy family\u2019s been bugging me about finding a steady girlfriend. They seem to think I\u2019m afraid to get serious about anyone.\u201d He picked up one of the containers and lifted the lid.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre<\/em> you afraid of getting involved?\u201d She didn\u2019t expect him to open up but thought it was worth a shot.<\/p>\n

He sniffed the contents of the container and put it back down. \u201cNo, just haven\u2019t found anyone I want to date on a steady basis.\u201d<\/p>\n

He swallowed hard and looked away. Nate was lying, What part was the lie\u2014that he hadn\u2019t found anyone he wanted to date or that he was afraid to get involved? \u201cWhat can I do to help you solve your problem?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was thinking, maybe you and I could date, like we\u2019re a couple, so my family would back off.\u201d<\/p>\n

A spark of annoyance flickered in her chest. He wanted people to think they were a couple but didn\u2019t really want to be a couple<\/em>. \u201cLet me see if I understand. We\u2019d date. We\u2019d pretend<\/em> to be serious about each other but it\u2019d really be casual?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout sums it up.\u201d He ran a hand through his hair. \u201cI like you. I think we have fun together and when my family decides I\u2019m not avoiding having a serious girlfriend, we can still be friends. You interested?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do have fun together and since we\u2019re both concentrating on our careers, a serious relationship isn\u2019t something either of us needs.\u201d She stuck out her hand. \u201cYou\u2019ve got a deal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGood.\u201d He shook her hand. \u201cWhat is all this stuff?\u201d He indicated the food.<\/p>\n

Silly man thought this was the end of their discussion. She\u2019d let him deflect\u2014for now.<\/p>\n

Rumor has it that Bonnie began telling stories at a very early age. Photos exist of the author toddling around the corner of the house covered in mud babbling about magic rabbits leading her through the garden. Her parents were amused \u2013 until they discovered she had also walked across the newly poured cement patio \u2013 which only added fuel to the fire of her passion for writing. From then on, her active imagination continued to churn out plots and character sketches always wondering how different people would behave in similar situations. People are endlessly fascinating and stories are everywhere.<\/p>\n

Bonnie used her writing skills throughout her professional life as a fundraiser and marketer for several nonprofits. She enjoyed the chance to tell and share the story of worthy organizations. In the late 1980s, Bonnie authored a syndicated column in several California newspapers in which she shared the experiences and misadventures of life as a wife and mother. The jury is out on whether or not her children appreciated her candor. Because Bonnie has romance in her soul, she also worked as a Wedding Planner for several years. Absolutely loved it!! She craves anything sweet, revels in any chance to travel, and is addicted to Ancestry.com. A native Californian, the author lives in Northern California with her husband.<\/p>\n
