Angela and Patricia glanced out the window to see Abe\u2019s car pull into the driveway. As often as he could, he made the drive to Massachusetts to see Angela and Polly.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s here early,\u201d Patricia said. \u201cSweetheart, you\u2019d better get out of that dress. You know it\u2019s bad luck for the groom to see the bride in it before the wedding.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTell him I\u2019ll be right out, will you, Ma?\u201d<\/p>\n

Patricia closed the door behind her as she left. While Angela undressed and carefully packed away the dress, she heard voices from the kitchen. As usual, her belly fluttered at the thought of seeing Abe. She wondered if she\u2019d ever completely get over that giddy feeling almost every time she saw him.<\/p>\n

When she stepped into the kitchen, she knew by his expression he had something to tell her. Even Patricia appeared uncharacteristically quiet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll go pick up Polly at school,\u201d Patricia said, patting Abe on the arm. \u201cI\u2019ll see you two later.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat was that about?\u201d Angela stared after her mother as she left.<\/p>\n

Abe approached. \u201cI got orders. I\u2019m going back to \u2018Nam at the end of the week.\u201d<\/p>\n
