Cassie watched as Marie made her way out on the dance floor with someone she didn\u2019t recognize. She focused on her, dancing with the tall stranger. They were doing some really awesome moves, when they turned and she couldn\u2019t believe her eyes. It was Deputy Miller, and he looked amazing out there on the dance floor!<\/p>\n

Marie laughed as the band finished the song and started a waltz. Logan pulled her closer, and the pair began to slow dance until James cut in. \u201cThanks for holding my place with my wife, Logan. Why don\u2019t you dance this one with Cassie?\u201d<\/p>\n

Logan bowed out, handing Marie over to James. He turned and gazed at Cassie, her sparkling brown eyes finding his. He sighed, shrugged his shoulders, and carefully approached her, his expression unchanging. \u201cMiss Holt, may I have this dance?\u201d he asked, holding his hand out to her, unsure why Marie rated a smile while he got a sour glare.<\/p>\n

Thinking it was only a dance and what could it hurt, she placed her hand in his, \u201cWhy yes, you may, Deputy Miller.\u201d Logan spun Cassie out onto the dance floor, and pulled her close. Wow, being in his arms made her start to rethink her decision on relationships. Tall, handsome, decisive, and he sure can dance.
\n\u201cFigured I\u2019d take my turn; looks like you\u2019ve danced with almost every other man here. You sure seem to be having a good time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I am. It\u2019s been way too long since I was here for the Harvest Festival Dance. I have many wonderful memories of these dances while I was in high school.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI just bet you do. I\u2019ve been watching you holding court with all your past conquests, even rubbing yourself all over James. No wonder you\u2019re no longer engaged.\u201d<\/p>\n

That halted her in her tracks. She stopped moving and stood there, staring at him. About the time she decided to slap him, he anticipated her move. His reflexes fast, he caught her wrist and immobilized her hand. \u201cLet go of me, you horse\u2019s ass. How dare you insinuate that I\u2019m trying to break up James\u2019 marriage.\u201d She turned and stomped off the dance floor, heading for the bar for a stiff drink. She clomped past James and Marie in her heels, calling, \u201cYour deputy needs a lesson in manners. What an ass,\u201d as she swooshed by. Finally making it to the bar, she ordered a shot of tequila, downed it, and ordered a rum and coke.<\/p>\n
