Between his imposing size and the narrowness of the tunnel, Selena couldn\u2019t see anything in front of him.<\/strong><\/p>\n It struck her that she was completely at his mercy\u2014trusting him to keep her safe from brutal enemies who were probably following them through an unknown wilderness. She should have been more frightened than she was, but strangely, in spite of how much he annoyed her, she trusted him completely. Part of her wished they hadn\u2019t had that stupid argument on the shuttle. Right now she longed for the closeness they\u2019d shared at Redwing Island. <\/strong><\/p>\n After what seemed like miles, the tunnel widened again and opened into another spacious cave. Selena tried to step past Jade, but he held out a thick arm, barring her way.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong?\u201d she asked.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cAh, I saw you coming,\u201d said a high, smooth voice.<\/strong><\/p>\n Selena glanced around Jade\u2019s shoulder. A slim, bald person draped in a cream-colored robe sat on a rock by the entrance of another tunnel at the far end of the cave. The person looked androgynous and appeared to be of late middle age, though well preserved. Their unexpected host also had no eyes\u2014just slight indentations in the flesh where most people\u2019s eyes rested. If Selena had not been trained in spirituality, she might have been confused by the person seeing them coming. Apparently that had been a figurative statement. <\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWho are you?\u201d Jade demanded,<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cSince you\u2019re invading my home, I should be asking that question, however I know who you are. The priestess who still has much to learn, and the warrior priest who hasn\u2019t known sexual release for almost his entire service to his Order.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Selena glanced sharply at Jade, unable to keep from grinning. \u201cAlmost his entire service?
