This excerpt continues the one from last week. Charlie has been painting scenes from Jocelyn’s life, but she doesn’t want to believe in the psychic connection between them.<\/p>\n

Excerpt:<\/strong><\/p>\n

She lifted the sheet, revealing the portrait of a girl no more than seven years old seated in an old-fashioned, high-backed wooden chair. Her lashes were lowered to round, fair-skinned cheeks, and she concentrated intently on the needlework in her lap. Her flaxen hair was wound into thick braids framing her innocent face.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s my favorite.\u201d Charlie smiled at the picture. \u201cI\u2019m finishing the background tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

She turned to him for some kind of reaction. He stared at the painting, his expression unreadable except for his dark eyes that glistened with unshed tears, like wax beneath a flame.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m thinking of calling her Bridget,\u201d Charlie said softly, unsure of how to react to his apparent distress. Should she cover the painting again?<\/p>\n
