This week’s excerpt is from Sam’s Silver Wolf. It’s set in the Pandemonium universe where demons have taken over the world. Humans, vampires, werewolves, witches, and other paranormal beings have banded together to fight the demon masters. \u201cDo what? Save your damn life?\u201d I growl.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, screw up my test.\u201d She tosses her hands in the air. Rich brown eyes glare at me from a face so pretty that even her look of rage doesn\u2019t detract from it. If anything, it makes her even sexier. \u201cI\u2019ve been working on a new defensive spell for weeks and spent hours tonight looking for lizard demons to test it on. Then you come along\u2014typical badass wolf\u2014and stick your snout in my business.\u201d<\/p>\n

Torn between annoyance and amusement, I curl my lip at her. \u201cYou\u2019re batshit crazy, darlin\u2019. Typical witch. You and your spells. Trust me, the best way to deal with demons is with claw and fang. Brute strength. No fairy magi\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

She gasps and thrusts her hand toward me. At first I think the crazy lady is using a spell on me. Sure, wolves are immune to most magic, but objects aren\u2019t. I\u2019ve seen witches control things with their mind\u2014even stop bullets from leaving a gun. She\u2019s not attacking me, though.<\/p>\n

Her magical energy hits its target with a loud crack followed by a wail. I spin in time to see a shadowy form sink to the ground and disappear into the snow, leaving behind only a sooty substance. A shadow-like demon. They have no scent, but they can choke you to death before you know what hit you.<\/p>\n
