It’s time for the Weekend Writing Warriors, the blog hop in which writers share 8-10 sentences from their work.

Through My Heart was released today! This excerpt from the story takes place just after Anna becomes a vampire.

Also, if you have a chance, I hope you’ll stop by my Halloween Page that just went live today. October is my favorite month!

Excerpt from Through My Heart

“You’re afraid, and I’m sure you have many questions,” Adrian said, unlocking a heavy wooden door. He stepped aside for me to enter first, and I stepped into a small, comfortably dark room. It was amazing to see down here in the windowless cabin without so much as a single candle for light. An intricately decorated carpet of black, red, and gold covered the floor. The table and chair in the far corner were made of polished oak. A low bed covered in linen sheets stood against the far wall, and above it hung a painting of a jagged mountain range against the backdrop of a giant full moon in a dark sky.

He gestured a large, long-fingered hand toward the painting. “The mountains of Constanta, where I was born into my mortal life, and my immortal one.”

Removing the hood, but still snuggling in the large black cloak that carried his scent, I gazed up at him. “Master—”

Adrian – I am a vampire whose physical ugliness intensified with my immortality. For centuries I hunted alone, disguising myself from prey, preferring illusions to brutal attacks. Others of my kind spurned me. Some tried to destroy me, and on them I unleashed my wrath. I suffered the agony of eternal loneliness, and then I met Anna.

Anna – My life was almost unbearable until a tall, black-haired stranger with fiery eyes and needle sharp teeth drank my blood and swept me into an unimaginable world. From the night we met, I gave Adrian my heart, but a lie spun by a jealous enemy drove us apart. I swore I would never give him the chance to hurt me again, but denying my love for him was harder than I thought.

![""]("https://kate-hill.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Through-My-Heart-350-×-560-px-188x300.jpg")
