I love watching horror, but not all horror villains are frightening enough to make me look over my shoulder after the show ends. The five on this list are disturbing enough to give me the chills every time I think about them.
- Freddy Krueger (played by Robert Englund) from the Nightmare on Elm Street series- What’s worse than a creature who haunts your dreams? Everyone needs to sleep, so there’s no way to escape this brutal murderer.
- John “Jigsaw” Kramer (played by Tobin Bell) from the SAW movies- Kramer is ruthless, intelligent, vengeful and strangely fascinating. Soft spoken, calculating Kramer tries to make the world bend to his sense of justice. What makes him so terrifying is that he doesn’t have any supernatural powers, but is a fully human monster who has nothing to lose.
- The Wendigo/Grady (played by Doug Jones) from Fear Itself: Skin and Bones – When this creature takes over family man Grady, he’s not only terrifying to look at but impossible to escape. He has no humanity left and is a purely evil beast.
- Captain Spaulding (played by Sid Haig) from House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects – Like John Kramer, Captain Spaulding is a human monster. No special powers, fangs or claws — just a complete lack of morals and a frighteningly violent nature. His crimes are committed purely for pleasure. He’s also the scariest looking clown on screen.
- Pennywise (played by Tim Curry) from IT – Another clown. No, I don’t like clowns, in particular murderous ones with supernatural powers. Pennywise terrorizes children and he holds a long grudge. He makes you think twice every time you see a drain or faucet.
