If you love werewolf stories as much as I do, you probably look forward to the thrill of a great transformation scene. Sometimes it’s the special effects that stand out, while other times it’s the general feeling of the scene that makes it unforgettable. Here are my top 5 transformation scenes, ones that really grabbed my attention and have stayed with me since. What are your favorite werewolf transformation scenes?
Werewolf (1987 TV series): In this first episode of the Werewolf television series, Eric doesn’t believe his best friend, Ted, is a werewolf. He agrees to tie Ted up until the change occurs, never thinking it’s actually going to happen, but he gets a terrifying surprise.
Bad Moon: Another werewolf named Ted provides a frightening transformation in Bad Moon. His sharp-toothed grin and creepy voice are the highlights of his monstrous change.
Fear Itself (Something With Bite): In the episode Something With Bite, Wilber is veterinarian who is bitten by a werewolf. While he’s respectably scary, Wilber’s wolf isn’t just a mindless beast. His transformation scene is done in shadow. What I liked most about it is instead of utilizing the more common idea of the change being painful, it appeared flowing and natural. It was more about the wolf truly being part of the man than a separate demon battling the human spirit.
An American Werewolf in Paris: Serafine goes from lovely to ugly in her intense transformation scene in An American Werewolf in Paris. Her muscular wolf isn’t one you’d want to run into on a dark night.
Hemlock Grove (The Angel): Peter’s transformation scene started out as average, until it reached the eyes. This one is truly unforgettable.
