My Top 5 Female Villains by Lana Mott
As the days get darker earlier up here in the Pacific Northwest, I hunker down with my Netflix for some Female Villainy. For me, a villain is someone who knowingly causes another person harm to get what they want. And if the villain can wear stylish footwear while doing it? Extra points.
1). Malory Archer/Lucille Bluth: As spy agency director-mother for our hero Sterling Archer or mother to the bumbling Bluth family, this classy lady is always ready for a cocktail and a quip.
2). O’Brien from Downtown Abby: For the longest time I hoped O’Brien had some snakelike extra eyes hidden under her forehead curls. But alas, no. No matter as Lady Cora’s maid, O’Brien isn’t above using her position to benefit herself. To wit: don’t let her draw you a bath.
3). Irene Adler from Sherlock: Love her wit, “battle armor” and how she wears Sherlock’s coat. Stabbing him with a hypodermic needle was just foreplay. She was a perfect match for our hero. Come back Irene!
4). Pam from True Blood: Whether in the novels or on HBO, Pam says it like it is, “I’m so tired of hearing about Sookie and her stupid fairy vagina.” She also dresses fabulously and gets to stand around Erik the Vampire when he’s naked. How do I get a job like this?
5). Claire from House of Cards: Gotta say, her hair first sold me. Shallow I know. But her appearance was so calculated, I hung on her every groomed syllable. The episode where she has the business manager sack her whole office then fires her? One gutsy lady.
Thanks for reading,
Lana
