Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi Kate, thanks for having me on your blog. My name is Rosalie Redd and I’m a debut fantasy/science fiction romance author. I grew up on classics in the science fiction, fantasy, and horror genres. I live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband and my pesky cat, Snookums. When not at my computer, I love to hike, Jazzercise, and snuggle next to the fireplace with a good book.
Tell us about your most recent book.
My debut novel, Untouchable Lover, is a sensual fantasy/science fiction romance about Lemurian warriors who battle against their age-old enemy to protect Earth, its inhabitants, and its most precious resource—water.
Noeh is a king who fears commitment yet must select a queen of his species by the next new moon or lose his crown. When he finds an unusual green-eyed female chained to a wall, he rescues her and brings her back to the underground Keep. Thrown together at every turn, he can’t resist her allure.
Melissa is running from her past and her controlling master. She didn’t intend to get captured by the enemy or rescued by Noeh. When she succumbs to her need for a male’s blood and drinks from him, she can’t ignore the compelling desire he ignites in her soul.
Who is the villain or antagonist in your story and what is he/she like?
Ram is the antagonist in Untouchable Lover. He’s a Gossum, a human creature with lizard-like attributes and mannerisms. In the wrong place at the wrong time, he was transformed from human to Gossum against his will. He’s cocky, intelligent, and quick witted. Sarcasm could be his middle name.
In his prior, human life, he worked in a medical lab. He had a wife, Sheri, but she left him due to his ever-increasing need for heroin. Thanks to his older brother, he acquired a taste for torture as a child and now delights in his goal to kill the Lemurians and enslave the humans.
What do you think are the heroic qualities your villain/antihero/supernatural creature possesses?
If nothing else, Ram is tenacious. Despite everything that’s happened to him in his life, he still holds the misguided belief that he can get back together with his ex-wife, Sheri. In his eyes, he needs to win the war to prove to her that he’s worthy. Once he’s won the war, he believes Sheri will forgive him and accept him once again.
What was the most difficult part of writing about this character?
Actually, Ram was my favorite character to write. He could be flippant, obnoxious, and down right nasty, and that was so fun to write! The hardest part was writing his backstory when he was transformed from human to Gossum. It was difficult not to feel sorry for the guy.
If you could give this character one piece of advice, what would it be?
Don’t give up on your dream, Ram. As long as you still care about someone else, you’re still human.
To you, how important is a good antagonist?
I believe a hero is only as good as the villain is bad. The villain provides the reason for the hero to exist. Without the dark, there is no light, correct? Besides, who doesn’t love to hate a good villain?
