My favorite villain is the phantom from Phantom of the Opera. While I know this is a book, I love the stage production. I’ve seen it 11 times! He is dark and hides his anguish behind a wall of anger composed of clever antics that are not the least bit humorous. And, despite his will to take what he feels should belong to him–Christine–in the end, he loves her enough to give her her happiness and the life she deserves.
Kae Elle Wheeler (aka Kathy L Wheeler loves the NFL, NBA, musical theater, travel, reading, writing and … karaoke! Kae Elle lives in Edmond with her attorney and musically talented husband, Al. She has one grown daughter who has an adorable baby boy, and one bossy cat, who acts as if she were the rescuer rather than the rescue-e!!
The Price of Scorn: Cinderella’s Evil Stepmother
Fairy tales don’t always end happily…Lady Hildegard Roche has nothing but resentment and scorn for the stepchild who culminates all that was stolen from her. Fourteen years after Prince Charming and Cinderella are crowned as King and Queen of Chalmers, Cinderella and her sisters gather at their mother’s deathbed. Stunned speechless, the sisters learn how tragedy shaped their mother into the woman she became. The question is: Can they forgive her?
Love the score from Phantom, and Les Miz! Someone needs to find a woman for that Phantom fellow!
The Price of Scorn was an enjoyable read–a new twist on an old tale.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts today, Kathy!
What fun to re-invent fairy tales with our own original twists! This one sounds compelling. Good luck!
Oh, this sounds great! I love this concept. I just got finished reading “Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister” and loved it. I’ll have to read yours. I love these kinds of twists and/or continuations of characters we already know and are interested in. It is a reminder that the story goes on despite the fact that you read the last chapter. Good luck to you!
I’m with you. I’m an addict! I have seen the play on television, in Vegas at the Venetian, on Broadway, and in Tucson. I loved it every time!
Well, I’ve never seen the Phantom (but have always wanted to….the music is fabulous) or read the book. But I have read The Price of Scorn and LOVED it. Cinderella was my favorite fairy tale character when I was a kid, and it was fun to read this version of what happened after the glass slipper!
I’m afraid I have never seen the Phantom either. I don’t like plays or musicals. I do own the movie, and I intend to watch someday. 🙂 The Cinderella series is excellent, and I love the dark turn Kae takes in Price of Scorn. Very compelling and it was awesome to hear the story of the stepmother.
You have me beat on number of times I’ve seen Phantom. Love it! Best wishes on your fractured fairy tales. 🙂
