On Scotland’s Isle of Skye, Robina uses her gifts to turn algae and muck into crystal clear fairy pools. A dark fairy chases her, while a black winged creature falls from the sky. One wants her body, the other claims her heart.
Duff was dying, and his search for a mate looked doomed to failure. A pretty dragon knocks him off his feet. When she says she had simply transformed her shape in order to meet him, his heart breaks. Human hunters and the dark fairy threaten them, while love erupts between them. How will two very different otherworldly creatures co-exist?

“Where do we go? I have not traveled near these jagged stone mountains. Our fairy queen forbids us to fly too near. Dark magic hides in these hills, and dark fairies.”
“What be a dark fairy?” Since Duff had never seen a fairy before he met Robina, he felt it wise to listen to tales of similar creatures.
“Dark fairies enhance their magic by consuming meat. When one of their kind flies near, even vicious wolves and badgers hide.”
“Don’t you eat meat?”
“Nay! Me clan be vegetarians. We subsist on wild onions, acorns, fresh moss…”
“Mushrooms?” he added, recalling the varieties that grew in the forest.
She shivered. “I detest mushrooms, but a carrot in broth soothes a hungry stomach. However, I recently met a dark fairy and was cautious in his presence. He calls himself Lon, and he made sure I knew his name meant fierce, strong, and warlike, before he kissed me. I sent him northward by telling him about a large herd of red deer. He was quite pleased with the information, but threatened to return, and make me his.”
“What!” Duff shoved her hand away, and stomped past a mountain of boulders. When a shard of black rock sliced open the sole of his foot, he cursed the rock, the wind, and the nameless dark fairy who had dared to touch her.
“Please do not yell at me. He kissed me, ‘tis all, and without me consent. We were having a nice conversation, and I only wished him to leave the area, to keep away from our home. What I felt was nothing compared to the pleasure your kiss ignited.”
