If you’ve been watching the Cobra Kai series, you know that Sensei Kreese is back. Generally I’m not wild about purely evil villains, and where the Karate Kid movies left off, Kreese appeared to have no redeeming qualities. What Kreese has is the ability to make people furious. He’s a charismatic monster with a background and skills that make him a dangerous man, though not dangerous enough to defeat Mr. Miyagi who kicked his butt in two movies.
Now, Mr. Miyagi is no longer with us, which leaves us wondering if Kreese, like Miyagi, is an unstoppable older warrior, or if someone in the new Cobra Kai series will have the knowledge and power to destroy him once and for all.
Kreese means trouble, but in a way that fans of the Karate Kid/Cobra Kai eagerly anticipate. He’s the guy you love to hate, even more than Johnny Lawrence. With Kreese returning, another question arises. Will Kreese become a shades of gray character like his former student?
Back in the day, Lawrence was almost as hateful as Kreese, but the creators of Cobra Kai have done a masterful job of showing another side to the former villain. Will they do the same with Kreese? Will they reveal a good side that wasn’t shown in the Karate Kid movies, or is Kreese still a total baddie?
I’ve been counting down the days until April 24th when season 2 of Cobra Kai begins. I can’t wait to see what will happen with Johnny, Daniel, their students, and most of all Kreese. How about you?
