Weekly Movie Recommendation–Always short so you can get right to the movie.
Title: The Man Who Laughs (1928)
Summary: A boy, disfigured by order of a cruel king and his loathsome jester, rescues a blind baby girl who becomes his greatest love.
What I Liked: While not the horror movie I was expecting, this movie is one of the best non-traditional romances I’ve ever seen. Gwnplaine (Conrad Veidt) is sympathetic and likeable. He and his small traveling family, including the wolf-dog Homo, his foster father Ursus (Cesare Gravina), and his soul mate Dea (Mary Philbin) are the heart of this movie. The villains, with their cruelty, greed, and privilege, are what make this a horror movie. If you enjoy romance with non-traditional characters and if you love old silent movies, I highly recommend the Man Who Laughs.
