Umm, I was born in 1840, so\u2026<\/p>\n

See, that\u2019s the thing. This whole biting nonsense. Don\u2019t get me wrong, I like a love nip as much as the next wolf, but it ain\u2019t gonna make you grow fur and howl. I\u2019d like to find the Unaware that started that whole business.<\/p>\n

When you change, is it painful?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t tickle, I\u2019ll tell ya that much.<\/p>\n

But if you go too long without changing, that hurts too. Damned if you do, kinda thing.<\/p>\n

Have you ever killed?<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you mean deers or rabbits, then yes, all the time on hunts.<\/p>\n

If you mean humans\u2026I fought in two<\/em> world wars. Take that as you will.<\/p>\n

Skinners? Let\u2019s just say we haven\u2019t seen any in the Bay of Fundy for a loooong time.<\/p>\n

Where are you from?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Born in New England, originally.<\/p>\n

What is your main purpose in life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, I\u2019m Pack Beta, so my job is to protect the Alpha so he can protect the Pack. Forbes is so good, I haven\u2019t had to do much.\u00a0 I spend most of my time managing the Pack finances.<\/p>\n

Who is your greatest enemy and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, there was this witch once\u2026but she\u2019s been dead for seventy years. Same as my wife *stares at hands for a minute*<\/p>\n

I guess I watch my back around the Burntcoat Coven, but I haven\u2019t had any run ins with the witches lately.<\/p>\n

Do you think you can ever reconcile with this enemy?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Witches in general? Well, they\u2019re in the same boat as us wolves, aren\u2019t they? As long as they keep the Covenant. Live and let live until they step outta line and threaten Unawares.<\/p>\n

What is your weapon of choice?<\/strong><\/p>\n

*leans back in chair* Whatcha have in mind, sweetheart?<\/p>\n

What makes you happy?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sex is a good start.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t know about happy, but Jocky\u2019s whisky can make you forget just about anything.<\/p>\n

\u201cLexi. Lexi, wake up.\u201d Rough hands shook her awake. Snapped on her light. Lexi clawed at the hands, flipped over in a hurry, pulled away from whoever was in her room.<\/p>\n

\u201cShh, it\u2019s OK. It\u2019s Kerr. Lexi. I need you to put on some clothes and come with me. Now.\u201d Kerr sat on the edge of her bed, a pair of jeans and a shirt in one hand, his other on her blanketed legs. He was patting her through her covers absently. He looked around the room and she had a wild thought he might see her gifts before they were ready until she realized she\u2019d tucked them under her bed.<\/p>\n

Lexi rubbed at her eyes. \u201cI thought you weren\u2019t going to push me to meet your Alpha.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not. This is something else. Please?\u201d No jokes. Not a smirk in sight. Nothing but deadly seriousness in his gaze.<\/p>\n

Lexi blinked. Had he just said please?<\/p>\n

\u201cUmm.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI need your help, Lexi. Please?\u201d<\/p>\n

That did it. She couldn\u2019t very well say no now, could she? Not without seeming like an even bigger jack hole than she\u2019d been earlier today.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere are we going?\u201d She flipped back the blankets and held out her hands for the clothes. His eyes wandered down her frame and she felt her cheeks flush. \u201cMy eyes are up here, Kerr.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of you I\u2019ve never seen down there, though.\u201d<\/p>\n

She frowned. \u201cWas that a comment about my weight?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo.\u201d His voice was thick, husky and he hadn\u2019t hesitated in the slightest. He gave his head a sharp shake.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight,\u201d he said aloud. But he didn\u2019t hand her the clothes. He stared at her body and his eyes took on a yellow hue.<\/p>\n

\u201cKerr?\u201d She crossed her arms over her breasts and pulled her knees up. A frisson of something crawled up her spine. Not entirely unpleasant. Kerr\u2019s breathing increased, as if he was fighting for control. That was never good. On instinct, she leaned forward and stroked his arm lightly.<\/p>\n

\u201cKerr. I need Kerr, not the wolf.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kerr caught her fingers and brought them to his mouth. Nibbled at the tips, his eyes never leaving her face. \u201cYou\u2019ve got me.\u201d He glanced down at her hand in his and she wondered if he realized at the same time she did that she had touched him, not the other way around.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to protect you, Lexi. Remember that.\u201d<\/p>\n
