The Unwanted is the second book in a series called, Black Water Tales.

Tell us about your most recent book.

Black Water Tales: The Unwanted is about a young woman who goes to volunteer at an orphanage to help children but she soon realizes that it is her who needs the help.

Who is the villain or antagonist in your story and what is he/she like?

Well, I don’t want to give any spoilers so I will not pinpoint the villain, but I will say that the villain is a very normal person in many aspects, which is what makes this person so terrifying. The person that we trust, the person next door can end up being our worst nightmare.

Is one of your main characters a supernatural creature that is traditionally considered “evil?” If yes, how does this character break that traditional stereotype?

No.

What do you think are the heroic qualities your villain/antihero/supernatural creature possesses?

One of the best qualities that my villain possesses is the extreme want to not be what they are and to be something different, something better. Unfortunately, many times the aspiration to be something different than what you are does not change the reality.

Is there any respect between this character and the hero/heroine of your story?

Yes, not only is there respect, but kindness, compassion and maybe even love.

What was the most difficult part of writing about this character?

The most difficult part about writing about my villain sometimes is trying to get into their mind and discover their true motivations.

If you could give this character one piece of advice, what would it be?

Fight it.

What kind of antagonist is your favorite?

The kind that you never suspect.

Who is one of your favorite fictional villains (can be from a book, movie or television)?

The Babadook is one of my favorite villains, because he isn’t what he seems. He is more a reflection of one’s own fear than he is his own entity.

To you, how important is a good antagonist?

A good antagonist is everything, without a good antagonist you have a very boring story.

Who is one of your favorite fictional antiheroes?

Patrick Bateman, I love the way that he is so self-aware, yet at the same time completely delusional.

What is one of your favorite paranormal creatures and why?

Freddy Krueger, he is terrifying because he stalks us in a place where we have little to no control, our dreams.

Jean Nicole Rivers

Jeannicolerivers.com

https://www.facebook.com/JNicoleRivers/

@jeannicole19 (Instagram and Twitter)

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/5832487.Jean_Nicole_Rivers

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOU4nXpJy5vMTkWOhjuS5yQ

Amazon Page for BWT: The Unwanted: http://tinyurl.com/hqnhrj2

Amazon Page for BWT: The Secret Keepers: http://tinyurl.com/hnyztjo

About the Book

Title: Black Water Tales: The Unwanted

Author: Jean Nicole Rivers

Genre: New Adult Psychological Horror

In the remote, eastern European town of Borslav there is St. Sebastian orphanage, a place where people discard their unwanted children. For the American, Blaire Baker, it’s the perfect place to volunteer her services. Paired with a cheerful volunteer nurse, Blaire is enthusiastic about the possibilities, but is quickly discouraged when she encounters the nefarious nature of the staff and the deplorable conditions of the facility and the children.

Upon arrival, one of the children informs Blaire, “There’s something in the basement.” It isn’t long before strange things begin happening, including Blaire’s flashbacks of the accident that killed her parents. The children soon suffer injuries that Blaire, first, fears may be the deeds of the callous workers but she soon thinks the abuse may originate from a source that is less than human, something unwanted.

The unwanted is coming but in order for Blaire to fight it, she must dig into St. Sebastian and herself in search of truth. Blaire wants nothing more than to help the children, but when she discovers the tragedy that happened in the basement and learns that the same evil forces are still at work, it will be Blaire who needs help…There’s something in the basement.

Reviews

OH MY GOD I LOVED THIS STORY!
