He didn\u2019t want to think about it. He didn\u2019t want to consider anything but seeing her with a decent man and getting the fuck out of Dodge.<\/p>\n

But then it happened again. Her scent, that fucking sweet smell that he could roll around in, found him, and his gaze returned to the stage.<\/p>\n

To find her staring\u2014at him. Beneath her pride, below the honeysuckle sweetness, something vile lurked\u2014terror.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho wants to start the bidding?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTen dollars.\u201d Someone, probably Sato, called out from the shadows.<\/p>\n

She raised her chin, looking like a queen rather than a concubine. Her expression, more than the long legs and tasty curves, drew even more attention.<\/p>\n

But she never removed her gaze from his. She watched him, challenging him to step up, to save her from the hell surrounding her.<\/p>\n

Desperate men saw a woman who would bear them alphas and save their packs and prides. The bids climbed higher and higher. And still, she stared at him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is bullshit,\u201d an alpha from Colorado shouted.<\/p>\n

\u201cGentlemen, calm down. His cash is as good as anyone else\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s too rich for my blood,\u201d the wolf beside him muttered, slamming his paddle on the bar.<\/p>\n

Apparently, it was a stretch financially for the others too. The tang of resignation filled the bar, but he wasn\u2019t sure if it came from the crowd or the stage.<\/p>\n

Goddamn it. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cGoing once.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her gaze stayed on him, and it seemed to say that he wasn\u2019t the man she thought he was. Her look said that maybe, just maybe, they could have had something real and special. When she licked her lips, she mouthed, \u201cSave me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGoing twice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sato hopped on the stage, inhaling her terror and giving her a look that promised pain. For the first time since Alexander set eyes on her, she looked defeated, broken, and lost. If that asshole got his hands on her, he doubted she\u2019d last more than a month before Sato destroyed her or she took her own life.<\/p>\n

\u201cGoing three\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

Enough of this shit.<\/em> \u201cTwo hundred thousand dollars,\u201d Alexander yelled, his voice rumbling with anger.<\/p>\n

The alpha looked at Sato, who stormed off the stage in a fury, but Alexander only had eyes for Sherry.<\/p>\n

\u201cSold to the bear,\u201d the alpha yelled. \u201cI sure hope you get your money\u2019s worth.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stared at his sister in-law\u2019s best friend, and he knew life as he knew it was over<\/p>\n
