Cash slowly pulled his keys out of the door, examining them. \u201cWhat\u2019s going on?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing. Right, Ian?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing. Like she said.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cash closed the door and set his keys on the table. \u201cUh-huh.\u201d He stuck his hands in his pockets. \u201cWhat\u2019s behind your back?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re on your own.\u201d Ian ducked into the kitchen.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoward,\u201d she mumbled out the side of her mouth.<\/p>\n

Cash moved forward and she took a step back. He lunged, catching her, and she screamed. He wrestled the bottle out of her hand and brought it out where he could see it. Ian ran in, then stopped when he saw everything was fine and put a hand over his heart, leaning against the side of the archway between the two rooms.<\/p>\n

\u201cHmm.\u201d He tilted the bottle. \u201cIs this my J\u00e4ger?\u201d<\/p>\n

They looked at each other with open mouths, but neither spoke. Cash ambled over to the coffee table and clinked the bottle against the shot glasses as he set it down. \u201cSo\u2014and correct me if I\u2019m wrong\u2014it looks like, while I\u2019ve been out working my ass off, the two of you were busy getting snockered.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, no. We were working hard, right, Ian?\u201d<\/p>\n

Ian made an attempt to stand straight, but swayed comically. \u201cWe were working hard.\u201d He nodded his head, but turned to Harper. \u201cWhat were we working hard at again?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking at the mug shots.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh. Yeah. That\u2019s right. We were looking at the mug shots.\u201d He faced Cash. \u201cAnd doing shots.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSh-sh-sh. It\u2019s a secret.\u201d Harper laughed.<\/p>\n

Ian chuckled along with her. \u201cOh, yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cash put his hands on his hips. \u201cWell, I hate to tell you, friends, but the cat\u2019s out of the bag now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCat? What cat?\u201d Harper cracked up again.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has a cat?\u201d Ian seemed genuinely confused, looking around for the feline. \u201cYou never told me you had a cat.\u201d<\/p>\n

For some reason she still thought this was hysterical.<\/p>\n

Cash put his feet on the coffee table, spreading his arms out along the top of the couch. \u201cWhose idea was this anyhow?\u201d<\/p>\n

They both pointed at each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was mine?\u201d Harper asked. Ian nodded. \u201cOh. It was mine.\u201d She smiled and didn\u2019t try to hide her pride.<\/p>\n

Cash shook his head and pulled out his phone. \u201cOkay, Ian. I\u2019m calling you an Uber.\u201d He punched some buttons. \u201cChrissy\u2019s gonna kick your butt. And the next time she sees me, she\u2019s gonna kick my butt.\u201d He looked at his screen. \u201cTwo minutes away.\u201d Coming over to put his arm around Ian, Cash steered him to the door.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m leaving?\u201d<\/p>\n

Cash grabbed his jacket off a recliner. \u201cYes, you are. Maybe the night air will sober you up some.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI doubt it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cash laughed. \u201cI doubt it, too. And you, little missie\u2014\u201d he swung around to point to her.<\/p>\n

She looked about, then put a finger on her chest and mouthed \u201cMe?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, you. Don\u2019t think you\u2019re off the hook. I\u2019ll deal with you when I get back.\u201d
