Tuchulcha Demons are Chthonic. No, I can’t pronounce it either, but it means they live underground rather than in a Christian version of hell. They come straight from Greek and Etruscan mythology.

So, why did they call to me?

In my latest book, my hero is Macedonian Prince raised by Spartans. He’s laconic, tough, and damn near undefeatable. At least he was until his wife murdered him in his sleep. Powerful forces sucked his soul away from his true destination, the Elysian Fields and into the Etruscan Hell realm.

Who lives there?

Tuchulcha demons of course. No real description existed. Or if it did, I couldn’t find it. That gave me free rein to invent something shocking. My starting point – everyone’s primal fear of spiders.

Here’s what I came up with.

Orcus, the God of the Etruscan underworld cross bred his demons with spiders. Now they have spiders’ bodies, human faces, and fangs. They stand as tall as a man. They have a weird joint in the middle that means they can revolve their upper body through a full 360 degrees. Just like the girl’s head in The Exorcist. Add in that they have too many limbs, and I’m already creeped out.

Tuchulcha thrive on suffering and pain. Elias, my hero endured seven centuries of undeserved pain and torment at their hands – or more correctly, claws. Somewhere along the way, he turned vampire to survive.

Finally, his fated bride Tempest accidentally summoned him to the modern world, but the Tuchulcha demons want him back.

Blurb

After seven centuries, Elias, a former Spartan turned vampire, finds his eternal bride.

Seth, Elias’s werewolf half-brother, scents his mate.

Vampire and werewolf loathe each other. If she can sneak a dragon into her paranormal books she will. Her paranormal heroes are muscular werewolves, arrogant Fae, or BDSM loving dragons.
Kryssie likes her contemporary heroes ex-military and dominant. Her heroines are kick ass females who can hold their own against whatever life – or Kryssie – throws at them.
Kryssie’s pet hates are unhappy endings, and a series that end on a cliff hanger.
Her books are all stand alone even when part of series. Plot always comes before sex, but when her heroines and heroes get together, the sex is explosive and explicit. One review called it downright sensual.

Excerpt from Claimed by the Vampire, Seduced by the Werewolf

Another backward glance and again he propelled Tempest forward.

She panted beside him. “For goodness’ sake, slow down.”

He couldn’t, not if he wanted her safe in the shopping center. Picking her up and racing to the mall might help, but if the demons took him down, they’d get Tempest too. Better to stand his ground while she bolted to safety. For her, he’d let them drag him back to Etruscan Hell. At least he’d made a few precious memories to sustain him. “Those demons are blood-hungry monsters. Believe me, they won’t give a damn who they drag into their underworld. If you see them, run.”

He looked over his shoulder before staring at the brilliant lights ahead. Another few minutes and they could have sheltered inside it. The demons didn’t thrive in bright lights, so Elias would have had time to figure out an escape route.

The lonely path seemed endless. His heart ached with love for his bride, but staying was an impossible dream. Leaving her so soon was another chance of happiness that fate snatched from him.

This world of bright colors and freedom fascinated him. He’d seen things, felt things beyond his wildest imaginings. Not learning more about Tempest’s homeland was another thing he’d regret as he shivered in his cell. Tempest, though, he’d remember with pride. His bride couldn’t have been more beautiful, and he’d never forget her kindness, no matter what torture the Tuchulcha inflicted on him. Just thinking about his bride would keep him strong.

The demons scuttling through the trees had his scent now. He could hear their high-pitched chittering as they summoned the rest of their tribe. For his bride’s sake, he’d delay them and give her chance to escape. “Keep moving. We’re almost there.”

Panting from the fast pace, she shot him a dark glance and looked ready to argue.

He wanted to hold her in his arms, bury his face in her hair, and fill his lungs with her wildflower essence, but keeping her safe mattered more than his selfish needs. “There’s a Tuchulcha on the tree branch behind us. No, don’t stop walking. They don’t like bright lights, so head for the mall. Now. Run.”

No demon hunter, she sped off with the lumbering speed of a steam train. Elias glanced over his shoulder, checking that the Tuchulcha hadn’t flanked him and gone after her. He heard her heart rate hit racing speed, and he hoped her legs moved as fast.

The Tuchulcha demons chittered as they scuttled onto the footpath. When Elias confronted them, they spread out in an arc before him. The demons were too close for him to hesitate now. He could see their extra limbs twitching as they lined up to take him. Every scuttling movement they made, every chittering sound they uttered hardened his determination to protect his bride. Outnumbered, he knew he’d be heading back to his icy cell soon, but to keep Tempest safe, he’d go down fighting.

Elias stood in the center of the footpath, feet planted in a come-near-me-and-die warrior’s stance. “Not so brave now I’m up to full strength, are you?”

Tuchulcha Demons.
