Where are you from?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thanks for having me today, though my life isn\u2019t really interesting enough for an interview. Well, except for the dead body I stumbled upon recently. My name is Sophie Carter and I\u2019m from Greenwich, Connecticut. But for those people on the East Coast, don\u2019t get the wrong idea. I\u2019m an online college professor who lives in a two-bedroom condominium.\u00a0 I don\u2019t own a mini-mansion and I would never even contemplate the daily commute into New York City from my suburb.<\/p>\n

Who is your greatest enemy and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A short while ago, I\u2019d have said I don\u2019t have enemies. I consider myself a pretty nice person. But you remember that corpse I mentioned?\u00a0 After finding a dead body in the woods during one of my runs, my life began to unravel. Long ago, there was this vagabond called the Old Leather Man.\u00a0 He was known around Connecticut and New York in the 1800s for wearing a leather suit and walking the same 365 mile circuit every 34 days. Creepy, right?\u00a0 Now I think he is after me.<\/p>\n

Do you think you can ever reconcile with this enemy?<\/strong><\/p>\n

How do you reconcile with a ghost, demon, or worse? \u00a0Maybe it\u2019s time to call in some paranormal investigators.<\/p>\n

Do you have a love interest?\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Jackson Lynch is the detective assigned to the case. When I first saw him, I was flummoxed. I\u2019m a grown woman and he had me stuttering. He\u2019s a wonderful man, but the case is complicated and that makes a relationship near impossible. I\u2019m the only witness and he\u2019s working to find a killer. That is if a human killer (not a supernatural one) exists. There are even times when I wonder if he considers me a suspect.<\/p>\n

What makes you happy?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jackson Lynch makes me oh, so happy until he gets overly involved in the case, and thanks to the media, things go awry.<\/p>\n

What makes you angry?<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s an easy one to answer.\u00a0 My mother, Norma.\u00a0 She worries about everything and gossips about everyone.\u00a0 I still love her deep down inside, when she\u2019s not driving me crazy.<\/p>\n

They left I-95 and after twists and turns along numerous side roads, finally sat in the car outside the brick and stone mini-mansion of Mr. Robert Dade. He was the current black sheep and estranged relative of the Dade clan, business partners with the Lovely\u2019s. Once it had been an impressive estate, but today the house looked weathered and abandoned. Wisps of brown grass volleyed with weeds in abandoned flowerbeds. The windows were shielded by mismatched\u00a0drapes of various colors and lengths. Though she couldn\u2019t see inside, Sophie thought there was movement upstairs. Curtains gently swayed back and forth.<\/p>\n

It looked disturbing and gave her a chill. The gray misty air and dark clouds hanging overhead added to the spookiness.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be back soon. Stay here.\u201d Jackson planted a kiss on her cheek in a move that was becoming comfortably familiar before exiting and heading up the walkway to the door.<\/p>\n

Sophie watched as he knocked, shoulders squared as he waited for someone to answer. After a few moments, a short, slim, white-haired man in an old tailored suit opened it. Sophie noticed the binoculars draped around his neck. Super creepy. Peeping tom old man. Instead of heading inside as she anticipated, Jackson stood in the entry way engaging the man in what looked like a heated debate. After a few minutes of raised voices and exaggerated hand movements, Jackson stalked back to the car.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe won\u2019t talk to me\u00a0unless you come inside.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMe? Why?\u201d Sophie\u2019s palms instantly turning clammy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d Jackson\u2019s fists clenched at his side. \u201cDade said he\u2019ll refuse the interview and call his lawyer unless you\u2019re present as a witness. Do you mind?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess not.\u201d Sophie\u2019s tone implied something different.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes it hurt the investigation if I go in? Isn\u2019t it against official policy?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly if they find out about it at the office, but that\u2019s probably why Dade wants you there. He feels it will compromise the investigation if we charge him with anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWill it?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t an official interview. I\u2019m not interrogating him, just gathering information. I\u2019m fact finding and getting some background. It might cause some concern, but overall, no.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOkay, I\u2019m in.\u201d Her voice wobbled.<\/p>\n

\u201cBe careful what you say. This guy is definitely a little off.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sophie’s mother, Norma worries and gossips, stirring up even more trouble.<\/p>\n
