This week’s excerpt is from my upcoming release Dominique, the 4th short story in my Romantic Moments series. Dominique is a vampire artist searching for his soul mate, but she’s not what he expects.
Excerpt from Dominique
Long ago, Dominique painted miniatures, tiny portraits in perfect detail to set in rings, lockets, and pins. The beauty of his work outshone the most ornate gold and silver settings and brought people from all over Europe to his home in a small town in southern Spain.
Dominique rarely traveled to those who commissioned him.
It wasn’t just his skill that attracted them, but his bewitching nature and peculiar reputation. He painted exclusively at night, without a single candle, unless his subject feared the utter darkness of his perfumed workplace. Even then, he allowed only a single black taper.
Once he began painting, interruptions weren’t allowed, especially from the model. With his expression passive and his brush held loosely in his long, thin fingers, he teased an empty surface with soft, quick strokes until almost magically, the picture formed.
Hair and eyes, lips and chin, all looked so real in the finished product that some people believed he snatched a portion of their soul and charged the miniatures with the essence of life. He gave them eternity through his paintings, and all he ever asked in return was a bit of their blood.

Dominique has spent his long life immersed in his art. People travel far to have him paint miniature portraits of them, but instead of money as payment, he asks for a taste of their blood.
Advice from a fortune teller sends him to a house where he meets Aurelia, another vampire with secrets even deeper than his own. Will the beautiful tattoo artist end his loneliness, or end his life?
Note: Dominique is a very short adult fairy tale featuring vampire love, some spice, and violence.
