What are your favorite genres to read and write?
Reading, I love romance. Period. I enjoy everything from chaste Amish Inspirational to hardcore erotica. Historical, contemporary, futuristic, paranormal and everything in between.
I admit I’m drawn to sexy stories more than others. And sexy doesn’t always mean erotic to me. Some very mainstream books have a tension that sets the pages on fire while other more erotic stories can fall flat, all action, no heat behind them. Give me a book that teases me, taunts me with the promise of an explosive encounter, then delivers it right when I don’t think I can stand waiting any more.
To you what type of hero/heroine is the hottest?
I love tortured heroes and alphaholes. Give me a alpha with a really screwed up life and I’m mush. I think it’s the tortured hero’s vulnerability I like, along with the defensive shell he puts up. Seeing that shell crack and all those broken parts start healing is just … *le sigh*.
Alpha heroes, I think I’m drawn to that confidence, that whole, “this is who I am, deal” attitude. Nothing ruins a good alpha book for me more than making him all soft and housebroken at the end. Now, I have to say I think there is a huge difference between an alpha and a jerk. I’m okay with some dickish behavior as long as he’s not a selfish bastard. He still has to have some redeemable qualities for me to like him.
When writing, do you have full control of your characters, or at some point do they seem to take on a life of their own?
Control? What is that?
I like to pretend I have control, then my characters will do something I didn’t plot and the story takes off in a new direction. I’ve had to learn to be flexible in my plotting. I think that flexibility is a strength in my writing, though. Going with the characters lets them be true to themselves. In my head they are independent beings and I don’t try to force them to go against their natures to fit my plot. I once had an author friend tell me I was the god of my writing universe and if I wanted a character to do something I should simply make them do it. That didn’t work for me though. What I wanted the character to do was contrary to what made sense to him. I was pulled to take the story in the opposite direction, and I think following the character’s lead made the book much stronger.
Share one of the sexiest or romantic lines from one of your books.
Wow. I think that is the hardest question I’ve ever been asked to date. LOL
In Forsaking Eternity I liked this bit, when Adam and Renatus met:
He held out his hand and Ren took it. Something flowed between them, something honeyed and warm. It was as if this man had somehow taken part of Ren’s essence, his power, changed it and returned it to him richer, more potent than before.
And shortly after…
Adam’s hand eased back down and he stared at Ren’s fingers on his sleeve. His lips parted, his breath caught for one brief moment before he drew a shuddering gasp.
Adam felt it, too.
The knowledge went to Ren’s head in a giddy rush. Flustered, he pulled away. Clutching his coffee for dear life, he stared into the faint wisp of steam escaping it and tried to make sense of what just happened.
In Risking Eternity, I loved the part surrounding the symbolism of the feather.
Long moments passed and his heart pounded with pain. He was forever losing his best friend. The thought of it twisted in his chest like a dying creature. He had been restored to the Heavens, yet had never felt more alone.
“Dom?” He glanced back and his eyes welled. Ren stood holding out a snowy feather.
Of course, Dom wasn’t meant for Ren. He had Maggie to keep him warm.
“Tell me to go away and I will.”
“Ah, Maggie.” Her name left him on a sigh, and his hand came up to slide under her robe, over the back of her thigh. “I can’t send you away. I could never do that.”
And then there is Pretend You Love Me, a short story currently available for free download. It wasn’t sweet or poignant like the others, but one of my favorite lines was this:
“Grab a rubber. I want to fuck like this.” He rocked again and his cock slipped against her. The friction was delicious.
Please tell us about your latest release.
Forsaking Eternity is a sequel to Risking eternity. In RE, Renatus discovered he was attracted to males… something that just wasn’t done among angels. In Forsaking Eternity, Ren decides to come to Earth to explore that attraction, hoping to purge himself of the temptation so he could resume his place in Heaven without wondering.
Instead he finds Adam, a professor at a small private college with whom he shares a love of language and translation. Their chemistry is instant and explosive, and before either of them knew what had happened, their experimental fling became something bigger, something they can’t simply walk away from. But staying isn’t an option for Ren. His place is in Heaven, not Earth. A demon is dogging him and he’s been given a divine mission, one which just might change his love for Adam from a social disgrace to a unforgivable sin.

Forsaking Eternity:
Sequel to Risking Eternity.
There are some things an angel shouldn’t do…
Renatus is a legalist and knows the rules better than most. But knowing the Law doesn’t stop him from imagining the press of a hard male body against his, or remembering one forbidden kiss that left him hungry for more. He leaves Heaven to mingle with mankind, hoping that satisfying curiosity will quell desire. He finds Adam, a college professor who has given up on love.
Adam once dreamed of finding the perfect man and settling down. His dreams and trust were shattered when he found out the truth about his ex. Meeting Renatus seduces Adam into taking another chance on love. But Ren is keeping secrets, and the only promise he will make is that he will leave.
Now the Most High has commanded Renatus to retrieve the Law of Men and Angels, and a vengeful demon is circling, waiting for her opportunity to strike. Staying is impossible, leaving unbearable, and Ren wants to succumb to temptation, forsaking eternity for a life on Earth with Adam.

Wonderful interview. I have to admit I’m partial to tortured heroes myself. hehe
I love the idea of manly angel sex. Sounds really hot!
I love tortured heroes too, Chris. Glad you enjoyed the interview.
The stories do sound hot, Kate!
Aren’t tortured heroes the yummiest?
Kate W., I love this story. I think it turned out to be the hottest I’ve written so far. Ren and Adam have some serious chemistry.
Kate H., thanks again for having me.
Nice interview. I’ve read FE and I enjoyed it a lot!
