Welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors blog hop. In it, authors share 8-10 sentences from their work.
This excerpt is from Dominique, my short vampire romance that was released at the start of the month. The excerpt picks off where the last one left off. Dominique and Aurelia are headed for Morocco, but Dominique forgot to sign the mural he was commissioned to paint. He heads back to do it and is shocked by what happens.
Excerpt from Dominique
Draping the cloak about him, he left the cottage and momentarily winced in the sunlight. He hadn’t traveled by day in centuries, and his intolerance plagued him now. When his vision adjusted enough, he mounted his horse and rode back toward the alcalde’s house.
No sooner had he arrived in town than guards surrounded him, dragged him from his horse, and tossed him in the local prison. Weakened and still half blinded by daylight, Dominique could scarcely rebel against the brutal hands that twisted his arms behind his back and hurled him down a flight of filthy bricks stairs where he landed hard on the mildew-stained prison floor.
“What have I done?” he shouted to the guards.
“You know what you’ve done, fiend,” snarled one of the uniformed men.

Dominique has spent his long life immersed in his art. People travel far to have him paint miniature portraits of them, but instead of money as payment, he asks for a taste of their blood.
Advice from a fortune teller sends him to a house where he meets Aurelia, another vampire with secrets even deeper than his own. Will the beautiful tattoo artist end his loneliness, or end his life?
Note: Dominique is a very short adult fairy tale featuring vampire love, some spice, and violence.

Boy, this doesn’t sound good for Dominique. Has he no powers because of the sunlight? Perhaps he should have left the mural unsigned. Great snippet! Tweeted
Nice tease! Got my attention immediately and now I need MORE!
Oh my, he’s in trouble! Tweeted.
That doesn’t sound good, in fact, it sounds like he’s in big trouble!
