Hello and welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors blog hop. In it, authors share 8-10 sentences from their work.
Today’s excerpt is from Shauna’s Silver Swordsmith (Silver Hearts 3) that’s scheduled for release on December 1st. I’m excited about this one mostly because of Shauna. She was a secondary character in the Confessions series, and though she didn’t appear in many scenes, I felt a strong connection to her and was compelled to dig deeper into her origins. Shauna’s Silver Swordsmith is about how the sexy receptionist at the Savage Sage acquired her skills with a sword and met the love of her life.
I hope you enjoy the snippet!
Excerpt from Shauna’s Silver Swordsmith
“It’s said the only one who can change your life is you.”
I roll my eyes. “Yeah, well, you don’t know shit about my life, Mr. Kishida. Oh wow!” I look through an open door into a room filled with swords, knives, and a bunch of other weapons. I find a light and turn it on. “You’re not a murderer or anything, are you?” I call teasingly.
“If I am, then it’s too late for you.”
And a bit more, if you’d like to read it:
Laughing, I approach a long, slightly curved sword mounted on a stand that rests on a black marble table. It’s also marked with Japanese symbols, and it’s probably the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. I reach toward it.
“Don’t touch,” Mr. Kishida says, striding toward me.
“I’m sorry. It’s just—prettier than diamonds or pearls. Anyone who can use something like that—no one would mess with them.”
I’m still staring at the sword, but I can feel his gaze on me. It’s like he’s measuring me or something. Maybe he thinks I’m lying about how pretty the sword is. Sure, I lie all the time, especially to guys, but I mean every word I just said.

Daniel – Reared by the master swordsmith who taught me his craft, I’ve dedicated my life to forging steel. I never thought about the occult, until a foreign man with unimaginable power stops at my home and forge. He takes me to Japan where I study under an ancient swordsmith. Nothing and no one, especially a woman, can tear me away from my craft, or so I think. While visiting New York City in 1927, I meet Shauna, and everything changes.
Shauna – Working the streets with only my abusive pimp Jack to look out for me is no way to live, but I don’t have much choice. When a rich weirdo takes me to a ritzy hotel and offers me a way out, I’m not sure what to do. Then he shows up at Jack’s juice joint with tall, gorgeous Daniel whose mixed messages make my head spin. Can a vampire swordsmith fall in love with a former pro skirt, or is all his heat only in the forge?
Note: Shauna’s Silver Swordsmith is a short vampire romance with a stubborn hero, a resilient heroine, historical settings, some spice, violence, and a HEA.

Absolutely loved the “If I am, it’s too late for you” line! She does seem like quite the badass–but I wonder if she really is? Tweeted.
What a great first line! I can see why you had a connection to her. She’s honest, witty, and with flaws.
