Welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors blog hop. In it, authors share 8-10 sentences from their work.
Today’s excerpt from Shauna’s Silver Swordsmith (Silver Hearts 3) picks up where last week’s left off. Shauna, a prostitute in 1920s New York City, is getting her first exposure to the world of vampires.
I hope you enjoy the snippet!
Excerpt from Shauna’s Silver Swordsmith
“There’s a fire in the other room.” He lightly touches my arm. “Come. Sit. Would you like something to drink?”
“Sure.”
“Wine?”
I grin. “That’s illegal, Mr. Kishida, but I’m not exactly operating by the law, either.”
And a bit more, if you’d like to read it:
“Stupid laws. There are far more dangerous things to drink.”
Weird. The man is just plain weird, but the longer I’m with him, the more I like him.
I lounge on the velvet couch while he pours the wine.
It’s occurred to me that he hasn’t asked my name. Not all customers do, but the ones that drag out the night like he’s doing usually want to know what to call me.

Daniel – Reared by the master swordsmith who taught me his craft, I’ve dedicated my life to forging steel. I never thought about the occult, until a foreign man with unimaginable power stops at my home and forge. He takes me to Japan where I study under an ancient swordsmith. Nothing and no one, especially a woman, can tear me away from my craft, or so I think. While visiting New York City in 1927, I meet Shauna, and everything changes.
Shauna – Working the streets with only my abusive pimp Jack to look out for me is no way to live, but I don’t have much choice. When a rich weirdo takes me to a ritzy hotel and offers me a way out, I’m not sure what to do. Then he shows up at Jack’s juice joint with tall, gorgeous Daniel whose mixed messages make my head spin. Can a vampire swordsmith fall in love with a former pro skirt, or is all his heat only in the forge?
Note: Shauna’s Silver Swordsmith is a short vampire romance with a stubborn hero, a resilient heroine, historical settings, some spice, violence, and a HEA.
Social
Intriguing scene. It just keeps building the tension.
I think she’s in for a surprise as to what this customer wants. I want to read more! Tweeted.
