Excerpt:
Matthew stood and pressed his palms into his eyes. He’d been in the lab since six o’clock that morning. Now it was nearly midnight, and with each hour of the moon, concentration became more difficult. He dropped his hands and jerked his tie loose. Unfastening the top buttons of his shirt, he walked to the window and stared at the full moon that had risen behind the silhouettes of skyscrapers. He turned his face, pressed his cheek against the cold glass, and closed his eyes, inhaling deeply.
A wild, musky scent filled him, made his body tingle, and forced to the surface the powers he kept buried in order to retain his fragile hold on sanity. He’d first caught that scent at his father’s birthday party and again this afternoon. It was that woman’s scent. Dulcie. His sister’s beautiful, sensual artist friend.
He took his lower lip between two wolfish teeth that slid from his gums and bit, tasting the salty sweetness of his own blood. His claws slipped from beneath short, human nails, and he raked the wall beside him, tearing through paint and plaster. Dulcie’s scent was so strong, as if she was there with him, but that was impossible.
He’d need a long drink of blood tonight. Nothing like working in a lab to ensure a terrific supply of —
“You spend too much time at work.”
Matthew spun, his gaze fixed on Dulcie who stood in the doorway. The light from the hall illuminated her white cotton dress, revealing her naked lines beneath. She closed the door behind her and slipped out of her high-heeled sandals. Walking to him on bare feet, she gazed up into his face. All five feet four inches of her stopped in front of him.
“How the hell did you get in here?” he demanded, his voice husky.
