Excerpt:
“Do you need anything from your hotel?”
“No.” Mara nodded toward her backpack. “I keep most of my stuff in there. Toiletries, a change of clothes. I’m set for tonight. Adam, are you sure you don’t mind me staying here?”
“Absolutely.” He glanced over his shoulder while pulling the drapes to block out the sunrise.
“The sun can’t hurt you?”
And a bit more, if you would like to continue:
“No. Some vampires have a severe allergic reaction to sunlight, but most of us can build up a tolerance. Our eyes and skin are sun-sensitive, and we function better by night, especially me. I’m afraid that’s one of the few advantages hybrids have over me. I have a stronger aversion to sunlight than they do.”
“I guess a lot of the old legends are wrong.”
“Many of them. Vampires have planted misinformation in the mortal world as a means of self-preservation.”

Scarred in mind and body after a brutal attack, Mara travels to Spain in pursuit of an explanation for flashbacks that hint at supernatural evil. There she meets Adam, a gorgeous vampire fighting demons of his own. Bound by mutual attraction and suffering, it seems they can heal each other, until their romantic relationship turns potentially deadly for one of them.
Note: The Immaculate was previously published. This re-edited version contains additional scenes. The Immaculate contains scenes with sex and violence. The story refers to past rape, past child abuse, and a past suicide attempt.

It is great to see a step away from the traditional staples most write. Great snippet, Kate.
I like the “nudge” towards the stereotype of what we perceive Vampires are like.
Interesting insight that vampires have waged a misinformation campaign to help shield them.
