This week’s excerpt from Warrior’s Grace picks up where the last one left off. Max has been searching for two children, Sam and Jane. He wants to adopt them, but they have gone missing from the children’s home. He’s finally found Jane, but she’s terrified and doesn’t want to be seen with him.

Excerpt:
“I need to bring the money. Sir, please.” She jerked away from his hold.
Anger coiled inside Max. “Jane, listen to me. I promise I won’t let anything happen to you or Sam, but you must tell me where he is.”
Again the girl glanced across the street. “He’s watching me. Oh, sir, please go away—”
“What’s going on here?” said a deep male voice.
And a bit more, if you’d like to continue:
Max straightened to meet the gaze of a scruffy-looking, bearded man with deep-set blue eyes.
“What are you doing with me daughter?” growled the man.
“Your daughter, is she?” Max glowered at him. “This girl and her brother went missing from a children’s home. What have you to do with it?”
“You’re mistaken.”
“I think not. Where’s her brother? I demand you bring him to me. Now.”
“You demand? This ain’t no private gentleman’s club where you can make demands. I say she’s me daughter, and if you don’t move away from her, I’ll—”
“Why don’t we settle this once and for all. I’ll find a bobby.”
The man blanched. “No need for that.”
