Today I’m sharing an excerpt from my latest release, Secrets, Hearts, and Flowers. It’s set in the Pandemonium universe. Demons have taken over the world. Residents of Earth, including vampires, werewolves, witches, and humans have formed a rebellion and are fighting the demon masters.
Vampire Lance Bloodbloom has been a warrior since the Middle Ages. In this scene, he and members of the Baltimore wolf pack were attacked by a swarm of bat demons. They’ve just been rescued by Manticore and members of his coven. Lance has never gotten along well with Manticore, although Manticore’s wife and Lance’s husband are good friends.
Excerpt:
“What do you rebels have against using the aromatic spray we sent? It never fails to drive off demons of low intelligence and high instinct—or at least it works on most creatures with those characteristics.” Manticore turned briefly, his gaze sweeping the wolves covered in gore-matted fur. Growling, the members of the Baltimore pack stalked to their motorcycles to inspect them for any damage left by the demons. Shaking his head at the wolves, Manticore turned back to Bloodbloom. “Well? Why didn’t you use it?”
Beneath his face shield, Lance gritted his teeth. Manticore never failed to rile him. Yes, he had come to accept that Manticore and his coven were actually on the side of the rebels, but that didn’t mean they would ever like each other, though they had learned to respect each other.
And a bit more:
“We didn’t think it necessary for this particular mission,” Bloodbloom said dryly.
“Well, it looks like you were wrong.”
Lance hated to admit Manticore was right, so he chose not to respond. Instead, he said, “What do you want? And don’t tell me that you showing up here is just a happy coincidence.”
Manticore examined his sharp claws that extended from beneath his human nails. “Then you won’t believe we were just in the neighborhood.”
“Don’t waste my time. What do you want?”
