Good afternoon! Please welcome Denise Agnew. Though I will be away for most of the day, please feel free to leave comments for Denise and I will post them as soon as I return. Thank you!
~Kate
Please tell us about how you started writing and what you like best about writing romance.
I started writing back when I was fourteen and it all went forward from there. I started writing to try and get published back in ’91. What I like best about writing romance…that’s a great question. I enjoy creating characters who can grow to love each other, grow in their personalities, overcome challenges, and defeat the big bad evil if there is one.
What are your favorite subgenres of romance to write and read?
I’ve written every genre of romance except for inspirational romance. I really enjoy romantic suspense and also historical with suspense and paranormal in my reading and writing.
Those of us who’ve been in e-publishing for a long time have seen many changes in the past decade or so. What are your thoughts on how the industry has changed, for better or worse?
Very much for the better. Of course every change has its challenges, but a lot of great stories will finally see the light of day that haven’t before, and to me that’s always good. The best thing, to me, is the opportunities that have opened up.
Would you tell us about your Asylum Trilogy?
The Asylum trilogy is set around an insane asylum in Colorado and the three couples that have to deal with the evil and hauntings in the asylum over three different time periods. The first story is set in 1908, the second at the end of World War I in 1918 and in present day. I hope to have the stories out to readers in the first half of next year. The novels will be published one every month or about a month apart. At least that’s the goal. I’ll have more information up on my website soon.
What else is coming up for you in 2012?
I’m finishing up Daryk Warrior, the last book in my Daryk World series at Ellora’s Cave. I’m also working on two other trilogies. One is a historical paranormal/dimension travel trilogy. The other is a trilogy featuring three military brothers. I’m not sure when those books will be out, but I always keep readers updated on my website, on Twitter, Facebook, and my newsletter.
What are you working on now?
Hopefully by the time this interview goes up I’ll have Daryk World finished and will be knee deep in the historical trilogy or the military trilogy.
I love looking at book covers and I was wondering what kind of covers you like best?
I love covers that deeply reflect the book’s contents…as close as you can get anyway. I like covers that scream “different” and are eye-catching in that way.
What are a few of your favorite book covers that have been done for your books?
Some of the best covers I’ve ever had are at Samhain…For A Roman’s Heart, Before The Dawn, Dark, Deadly Love. At EC my best covers I think are Bridge Through The Mist and Haunted Souls. My webmaster has started to do some covers for my self published books and those are awesome. I love covers that deeply reflect the book’s contents…as close as you can get anyway. I like covers that scream “different” and are eye-catching in that way.
Last but not least, where can we find you online?
The best place to find me is at http://www.deniseagnew.com . And I have links from there to Twitter, Facebook, etc. On my website I have excerpts for all my novels and my blog, too. Please sign up for my newsletter there.
Thanks so much, Kate, for having me here in your writing world. I very much appreciate it. 🙂
