Good afternoon! Please welcome Wendi Zwaduk. Though I will be away for most of the day, please feel free to leave comments for Wendi and I will post them as soon as I return. Thank you!

I want to thank Kate for having me back on her blog. This time I get to write as me. I’ve penned a post for her under my pen name, Megan Slayer. As Wendi Zwaduk – get confusing, doesn’t ?—I want to say hello and welcome to the post. Thanks Kate!
Now you’re probably looking at the post title and thinking, gee, that’s a great title for a February post. Actually, it is and I’ll tell you why. This month, with Total-E-Bound, I’m part of the Heart Attack collection. My title for the group is called Over My Head. I’ll tell you a little bit more about the book a little later. But the title of the collection got me thinking. Heart Attack is kind of a downer name, but it also made me think of one of my favorite bands, Queen. One of my favorite albums by Queen?
Sheer Heart Attack.
While I can’t say I listened to JUST this album as I wrote Over My Head, I did listen to quite a few of the songs on the album. As an aside, the title did come from, you guessed it, the Fleetwood Mac song by the same name. The hero feels like he’s gotten in over his head and mentions it. I couldn’t NOT use the title. But back to the Queen reference…
I love Queen. Killer Queen makes me want to sing along every time. I love the guitar scream in Now I’m Here. Talk about a screech to get your attention! Wow. And then there’s Stone Cold Crazy. Love it.
So how does this relate to the month of February, love and my novella? Over My Head takes place at a strip club. The hero is an undercover cop. The heroine? Yep, she’s a stripper. Music factors very heavily into the story. I can see her dancing to Now I’m Here. The intro does lend itself well to just strutting out there and putting everything on the line. I can see Slade thinking he’s Stone Cold Crazy to be getting involved with a stripper. To a degree, I can see Astra being a Killer Queen – she’s smarter than she looks, but devilish as well. So while the whole album might not work for the story, bits and pieces do work. And every time I see the collection name, I think, SHEER Heart Attack. My mind works in oddball ways.
Now that I’ve chattered about some of what I listened to while writing Over My Head, here’s the blurb and a teensy excerpt to whet your whistle!
What happens when two opposites realize they have more in common than expected?
I’m a dancer, a damn good one if you asked. I work at the Silver Steel Gentlemen’s Club. My hard and fast rule? No freebies and no office dating. Except for Slade. Hard, fast, slow, gentle…I don’t care. I’ll take him any way possible. But he’s not that in to me.
Or so she thinks. I’m a bouncer at the Silver Steel. Astra doesn’t realize I see her. I can’t help myself. She captivates me every time she’s on the stage. I want her, but I have a…problem. I’m not at the Steel to pick up chicks or even work the room. I’m there to stop the influx of drugs into the community. Yeah, I’m a cop. But if the job means sampling the dancers… As long as I keep my heart out of it, I’ll be fine.
I hope.
And now for a saucy little excerpt:
“Hon…”
“Don’t hon me. I know what I want and it’s to lay here.”
Why was it that that idea didn’t sound so terrible? Because more than he’d care to admit, she’d wrapped herself around his heart. She’d got past the one place he swore he’d never let anyone go beyond.
Slade forked his fingers through his hair. She’d be the death of him.
He sighed. If she was going to be stubborn…fine. He’d be stubborn, too.
“Then you’re coming to bed with me.” He scooped her into his arms and carried her into the bedroom.
“I’m not sleeping with you.”
Gingerly, Slade placed her on the bed. “No, you’re going to sleep with me.”
“Isn’t that what I said I wasn’t going to do?” She clutched her head. “Why are you being so bull-headed?”
Slade grabbed the hem of her shirt and slid the soft cotton over her head. “Lay down.” Frowning, she did as he asked. He then slid her jeans past her from her hips and tossed the discarded denim with the T-shirt. “I’m trying to take care of you.”
