Good morning! Please welcome guest author Brynn Paulin. Though I will be away for part of the day, please feel free to leave comments for Brynn and I will post them as soon as I return. Thank you!

What do you like best about writing?
I love bringing characters to life and exploring new places, lifestyles and situations. Writing is a fantastic outlet for all the excess energy spilling through my imagination. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t making up stories and either writing them down or creating plays with my friends for the neighborhood kids. There isn’t a day that passes that I don’t see something or hear something that sparks the “what if” in my brain. It makes life really interesting and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What is the most difficult thing about writing?
For me, focusing is the most difficult. Often I have several stories pulling my attention so I need to filter my thoughts to look solely at the story I’m writing at the moment. Couple that with family walking through my writing space at regular intervals, and I sometimes wonder how I get anything done. BUT the great things about writing far outweigh the difficult.
When you’re brainstorming for a new story, what usually comes first for you, the plot or the characters?
Characters. Always the characters.
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
I’m more of a plotter than a pantser, but I’m not a hardcore outliner. Over the years, I’ve learned to be flexible. Things change and sometimes characters need to wander places I didn’t realize they needed to go when I started the book. I rarely regret it. That said, I always write with a list of “landmarks” the story needs to visit before I get to the ending—and I need to know that ending before I start the story.
What do you like about writing series books?
When you write series, you get to revisit places and people you came to love while writing earlier books. You never really need to say goodbye.
Would you tell us about your latest release?
My latest release was from Resplendence Publishing. It’s a historical titled In the Dark and takes place in Northern England, 1351, roughly a year after the black plague subsided there. The heroine, Katherine, spent her entire life in hiding due to a red blemish on her face that some said marked her as a witch. After her family is killed by the plague, the family home is given to the hero, Calen the Black. She’s drawn to him but only visits him In the Dark.
What are you working on now?
My next book is also at Resplendence Publishing and is the next story in my Daly Way series. Roped by the Team is a ménage plus (three men and a woman), and it’s a follow-up to the characters’ initial story that took place in a super-short story called One for the Team. In the first story, readers were treated to a steamy one-night encountered, and now in this story, we’ll see their real life and the unexpected consequences of that night on the range. Though it’s related to One for the Team, it’s written to stand entirely on it’s own.
If you could meet one of your characters, which one would it be?
I wouldn’t mind playing with the “robot” in Orgasmatron.
Do you prefer writing your heroes, your heroines or do you like writing both equally?
I definitely prefer getting inside the heads of the guys, putting them in a blender and seeing what they do.
What are your favorite genres to read and write?
I love to read romances of all sorts. I enjoy military, historical, ménage and vampire the most. Oh…and cowboys. And…I’m just a teensy bit addicted to traditional Harlequin-type novels. What can I say? That’s what I grew up on.

When you’re not writing, what do you like to do?
When I’m not writing, I’m usually spending time with my family. When I’m not doing that, I enjoy cooking, reading and oil painting.
How long have you been writing?
Though I’ve written as long as I can remember, I’ve been writing seriously since May 1999.
Do you have any particular writing habits?
Generally, I write by the CSS method: Coffee, silence and solitude, and I try to write first thing in the morning. If I can’t do that, I’ll settle for coffee and noise deadening headphones.
What book are you currently reading?
The Soldier’s Homecoming by Donna Alward
What is the last movie you watched?
Twilight
