What is one of your favorite things about writing?
I like making stuff up! How is that not the best part about writing for anyone?
When you’re brainstorming for a new story, what usually comes first for you, the plot or the characters?
Characters always come first, and I’m not sure why. It’s rather annoying because then I’ll have these awesome people in mind and have no idea what they’d like to do.
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
I am a reformed panster. Trust me. It’s much better to be a plotter.
When you’re writing, who is more in control, you or your characters?
My characters. There is no question here. I always have a plan in mind, and then I’ll get to that point, and they’ll run off and do something else on me.
Can you write sex scenes at any time or do you have to be “in the mood?”
I dread writing sex scenes. I write anywhere at any time, and sometimes I end up in the most awkward places writing those scenes. I was once on a train, and the guy in the seat next to me leaned across me to actually read the sex scene I was writing!
What do you like best about writing?
What is the most difficult thing about writing?
What do you like about writing series books?
I like watching these characters that I’ve created take on lives on their own and develop and change throughout the series. On the flip side, I hate writing series because I’m always coming up with a new character that just demands his or her own story!
Would you tell us about your latest release?
I can’t believe we have arrived at Kate and Thatcher’s story in the Spy Series. This is book three of this series and the fourth book I’ve written centered on these characters. I’ve always believed that Regency romance heroines have been a bit, well, sad, and I’ve created this series around the idea that Regency romance heroines can kick ass. Katharine Cavanaugh, the heroine of this book, lives up to this standard. But when she meets American mercenary, Matthew Thatcher, she must rethink everything she has come to expect from her life. It was challenging to write a character with such devotion to her career as a spy for the British War Office when she encounters the incredibly hot and funny American in a mission gone wrong.
What three words would the hero of your story use to describe his love interest?
Confident, strong and likes to eat!
What three words would the heroine of your story use to describe her love interest?
Jovial, amiable and annoying.
Do you have any pets?
It would be remiss of me not to mention the incredible contribution to my writing by my writing partner, Lady Josephine, an extremely opinionated Basset hound.
