Good morning! Please welcome guest blogger Susan R. Hughes. Though I will be away for most of the day, please feel free to leave comments for Susan and I will post them as soon as I return. Thank you!

Would you tell us about yourself?
I live in Ottawa, Canada, with my husband and three daughters. I’ve worked as an editor for many years, and published my first novel in 2011. I write contemporary and historical romance, and all of my stories are set in Canada.
How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing since I was a kid and I’ve always had the dream of being a published author, but it wasn’t until about 12 years ago that I discovered how much I enjoy writing romance.
Would you tell us about your latest release?
My latest release is a boxed set of the first three books in my series, called the Music Box Series, which follows three generations of couples. In Sense of Touch, Sean and Amy save each other when they are both injured during the Halifax Explosion of 1917, and are soon after separated, until encounter each other again in 1923. In Someone Like You, their daughter Bridget moves to Ottawa in 1947 and meets divorced World War II vet Adam, who is haunted by battlefield memories. In Heart’s Desire, Adam’s former neighbour, Mavis, is living in Vancouver in 1957 and must deal with prejudice when she falls in love with Will, a black man.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the fourth book in the series, set in 1977, about Adam’s son Ethan searching for his birth mother, who abandoned him as a baby.
What do you like about writing series books?
I like being able to follow the characters through a number of decades, and although the stories are separate, I enjoy creating the threads to tie them together. In my historical series, I have enjoyed immersing myself in past eras.
What are your favorite research resources?
The internet is very handy, but books give more in-depth information, and I’ve found a lot of very useful books at the local library. The best resource of all is talking to people who are knowledgeable on the subject. My parents were very helpful giving me a picture of life in the 1940s and 1950s.
What book are you currently reading?
I just finished Changing Earth, Changing Sky by Jameson Parker. He starred in the detective series Simon & Simon in the 1980s. He’s an excellent writer, and I highly recommend the novel.
