What is one of your favorite things about writing?
You get to sit in a room and make shit up.
When you’re brainstorming for a new story, what usually comes first for you, the plot or the characters?
It depends. Sometimes the “what if”, sometimes, a character who seems really cool and is just standing there, you know like characters do in a video game, just bouncing on their feet and waiting for you to put them into action.
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
I seem to have an intuitive grasp on story. I want to be a pantser, but I do better when I plot, especially the try/fail cycles, just for confidence.
When you’re writing, who is more in control, you or your characters?
It’s a mutual creative tug of war, I think. I often wonder why I wrote something and later it becomes apparent why.
Can you write sex scenes at any time or do you have to be “in the mood?”
Just writing them gets me in the mood.
What do you like best about writing?
Finishing a story and knowing it works. I love it when a beta reader is happy and excited.
What is the most difficult thing about writing?
Putting all the pieces parts together and getting them to play nice.
What do you like about writing series books?
The long story. Lots of room to play.
What is one of your favorite ways to learn about your characters?
I do my version of the Hero’s Journey. They tell you all kinds of things. Of course, too, when you write something and then wonder, “Now why did I write that?” and then later it becomes apparent. That tickles me and impresses the heck me when I think about my creative process.
What do you feel are some of the pros and cons of epublishing?
Control, control, control. Then the cons are marketing and promotion (of course, you have to do that either path you take). I would rather be writing.
Where do you find inspiration for your stories?
Everywhere. And since people know I write erotica, they tell me the most amazing things.
What do you like best about writing menage?
The tension, the worry that the characters will have issues, the issues they have, the figuring out how to solve them.
What do you like best about writing erotic romance?
I love sex and it gives me a chance to work out things people have told me about or I have seen or wondered about. Also, women in our culture don’t have a lot of ways to learn about sex other than plumbing. I like to use my writing to share all the wondrous and weird things about sex.
What are your favorite research resources?
Alternative Lifestyle Conventions like Thunder in the Mountains. The dungeon is a spectacle not to be missed.
What usually comes first for you, characters or plot?
Characters usually.
Do you find it harder to write novels or short stories?
They are both hard for different reasons. I like them both. The short story is a nice little self-contained capsule that imposes a lot of boundaries that make you really push to meet them creatively. Long work gives you room to stretch, but you have to maintain control or things can ramble around.
Would you tell us about your latest release?
Dirty Little Deal It will be out next week. It is the first in a trio of books in the Darker Wings Series and I am super excited about it.
The logline is:
A beautiful mask
A grotty dungeon at a sex convention
A rule-bound woman
A man intent on peeling her inhibitions away, one slit of the knife, one hitch of the skirt, one nibble at a time, while he whets her appetite for discovery.
The blurb is:
Luiz’s girlfriend, Tasha, has a rule book called “How Sex Should Be”. He’s decided his “Love to Make You Come as Many Ways as I Can” book makes more sense and more pleasure for both of them.
He knows it won’t be easy to convince her, but he has a plan. If it doesn’t work he’ll have to call it quits and leave her for good.
What are you working on now?
Another trio of books in the Darker Wings series. This time it follows a trio of women who go to a sex convention and each discover her own path through three books.
Do you have an excerpt from your latest release you would like to share?
Dirty Little Deal, Dirty Little Book 1
Tasha’s book has a lot of rules about what’s okay and what’s not. I have decided we can only have one book and I want it to be mine, along with her.
So I set her up for an opportunity to make her let go of her rules and discover what she’s missing. I bought two memberships to the Darker Wings Convention.
Touching the receipt in my breast pocket, I hefted the colorful shopping bags from Ashes to Fashion as I walk up to her door. The bags will be the first hurdle. The dress would be fine, a satiny black pencil dress with a cutaway back and decorative frogging on the front. Even the stockings with subtle clocking at the ankles wouldn’t cause a fuss.
But the shoes. Oh, my. I got a rise just thinking how the backs of her calves would look as her legs rose up out of the patent leather fuck me heels. I got a larger one out of imagining her bent over the couch in those heels, as I slipped her a bigger than Lebowski’s. I’d slap her ass to see it jiggle and hang on to her hips and watch in the foyer mirror as I watch her glorious tits jouncing while I ride her.
But first I had to get her out of the sensible heels she always wore. Because nothing about my plan was sensible and I wanted her to be off balance. Which would make it easier to push her over the edge.
Would you give us a sneak peek at one of your upcoming releases?
From Dirty Little Dare, Dirty Little Book 2
Mr. Twist lifted her skirt–he likes Cara Mia in skirts so he can touch her intimate places easily–and ran a finger from her ankle to the top of her thigh and let it rest there, while pinning her with his eyes. And she met them, barely wavering.
Then he let his finger slip over her thigh, all the while demanding she look into his eyes. Then he lifted his finger and she blushed as he pushed it into her mouth. She knew by then what was required and let saliva coat his finger freely. She gasped as he let it fall between her legs and laughed as he began to coax her clit out to play. His finger swirled and skated smoothly like a brand that left a searing trail over her skin.
Cara Mia’s hips began to roll and jerk as his finger found its mark and shimmied there like a hula girl waiting for the sun to set, which inevitably it did, the swollen red heat of pleasure diving down into the sea of her desire and exploding in a scorching explosion that left her limp and open, too spent to be anything but compliant.
Who knew breaking out of all my ideas about “This is How Things Must Be” would be so much fun? Except that it is Cara Mia that is breaking the rules. I have broken nothing, except, somehow I feel cracked.
