Well, my family moved from South Korean to US when I was about 10. The transition was difficult. I will admit I spent most of my teenage years daydreaming and reading romance novels ‘til the wee hours of the night. I somehow managed to graduate and get accepted to UC. After that came marriage and family. Through it all, the stories I had read as a young girl stayed with me over the years.
I started my first manuscript in college, but I didn’t finish it until a decade later. I went on to write a second novel, The Enemy Spy. This manuscript went on to win several awards and full requests from NY publishing houses.
I have to say, my journey has been not without difficulty. I had many up and down, but in the end, I am very glad I did it!
Some interesting facts about me: I LOVE, love, love Doctor Who. I am a Star Trek junkie. I can watch the episodes over and over again…seriously, I have!
What are your favorite genres to read and write?
Although I enjoy a good story in any genre, my favorite genres are historical romance and thriller. For now, I write historical romance set in Regency and early Victorian, but I am considering branching out into romantic suspense and contemporary romance.
What do you most like about writing?
I love starting a new story, the beginning stage, where I am getting to know the characters and the new possibilities ahead. I don’t plot much. When I start, I know the characters, their internal/external goals, but it’s an open road from there.
What do you most find difficult about writing?
I find managing my writing time quite difficult. With family and teaching during the day, writing in the evenings is very hard for me. I have struggled with getting my butt in the chair and write, especially when I am stuck. Over the years, I found ways to discipline myself, but it was through trial and error. Now, after many years of writing, I find that writing in the morning works best for me, usually early morning until about noon. After that point, most of my creative energy is drained. I also put a lot of time in during the weekends.
Would you tell us about your latest release?
Enemy’s Kiss is my debut novel. It’s a historical romance set in the Regency period. It will be released in late April exclusively through Amazon (it will be available in e-book format and paperback). Enemy’s Kiss is Jane Austin meets Mission Impossible. My books have suspense and mystery layered throughout. It has it all: Romance, betrayal, redemption, and, my favorite, happily ever after.
What makes the hero of Enemy’s Kiss hot?
Michael Whitfield is a very attractive alpha, but I think what makes him hot isn’t his looks, but his gentleness and protectiveness when it comes to the heroine and his family. He can be very venerable and sensitive at times, too.
What are you working on now?
Right now I am working on a historical romance series called Sinful Ladies of London Novels. The first book, Sinful Pleasures, will be released late fall this year. I will have a cover reveal in summer. It’s based on three ladies who will come together through most unusual circumstances and start a school for fallen women. And, of course, they will have their happily ever after.
What is your favorite comfort food?
Anything spicy. I love Thai, Korean, and Mexican.
What is the last movie you watched?
I recently watched Gladiator (Russell Crow). I just can’t say enough about this movie. It has an honorable alpha hero, elements of family betrayal, redemption, and love.
Name three fictional characters that you find hot. They can be from books, movies, or TV?
I love Sleepy Hallow and there was a character name Orion in one of the episodes. He escaped purgatory and there is this sense of darkness about him that is intriguing to me.
I also love Oliver Queen in Arrow. I love the deep-rooted issues that make Arrow a great three-dimensional character that I want to cheer for.
And, last, Thor–he’s just hot!
