What is one of your favorite ways to learn about your characters?
To write the scenes I see in my head then question who they are, why they did something in a scene and how they came to be in whatever predicament they’re in. I learn most about them by observing their behavior (kinda like real life!).
What do you feel are some of the pros and cons of epublishing?
Pros – the author has more control over your finished product, keeps more of the profit, and it’s a wonderful learning opportunity! Cons – it’s a lot more work, you have to become an expert on more things quickly, it takes up time that could be spent writing.
But I would still highly recommend it!
What usually comes first for you, characters or plot?
Characters. The plot comes once I figure out who my characters are and why I’m seeing them doing things.
Would you tell us about your latest release?
I’ve just re-released two books that were previously published by Ellora’s Cave, Down To Business and Risky Business. Both are contemporary romances. Prior to that, I released a shifter paranormal romance with Decadent Publishing called Your Wild Heart. It’s part of the multi-author series, The Black Hills Wolves. I’m very excited to be a part of that author group!! They’re a fantastic bunch of authors.
What are you working on now?
I finished another contemporary romance earlier this year and I’ve been working on edits so I can pitch it to an editor at the RT Booklovers Convention. *fingers crossed* Anxious to see how that goes! As soon as that book is settled I want to finish working on the Native American paranormal historical I started last year.
What are a few of your favorite book covers that have been done for your books?
Fiona Jayde has done a fabulous job on three of my covers – she did Your Wild Heart (which is how I found her) so I asked her to do the new covers for Risky Business and Down To Business. I just love them!
If you could step into one of your books, which one would it be?
Ghostly Persuasion because it is set in Ireland. At a haunted castle turned hotel in Ireland. How cool would that be to visit??!
Where can we visit you online?
You can find me on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/dena.garson.7 or on my website at http://www.denagarson.com/ or even Twitter (https://twitter.com/DenaGarson ) and Pintrest (http://www.pinterest.com/denagarson7 ).
When you’re not writing, what do you like to do?
I love to play with beads – sometimes I even make jewelry. LOL. I have an addiction to beads. I have about 16 fishing tackle boxes full of them (and a couple of drawers too). It’s one of those hobbies that just calls to me. When I sit down at my workbench I could happily work on stuff for hours.
Where would you go on your dream vacation?
The UK – for like a month. I want to see England, Ireland and most especially Scotland. I could drive all over the UK just looking at stuff, no destination in mind. I want to see everything from Stonehenge to heather fields and the cliffs overlooking the seas. *sigh* One day I will!
What is your favorite comfort food?
Homemade mashed potatoes. Yum, yum, yum!!! My grandmother made the best but thankfully my mother learned her secrets before she passed away.
Do you have any pets?
Yes, I do! I have a snotty grey tabby, Bijous, who really only loves my younger son. She tolerates the rest of us. And I have a loyal and loving Labrador Retriever mix named Sadie.
