KH: When writing, do you have full control of your characters, or at some point do they seem to take on a life of their own?
DC: My characters ALWAYS take control. It’s actually a wonderful feeling to sit here and type, marveling at what appears on the screen.
KH: When creating a story, what usually comes first for you, the characters or the plot?
DC: The characters. They appear in my mind like watching a movie and generally they step outside my brain and I almost feel as if they are sitting in the room with me, telling me what’s going on. I LOVE it!
KH: Do you have any particular writing habits? (Listening to music, best time of day to write, etc.)
DC: I’m a complete creature of habit. Almost OCD about my routines. I work best during the afternoon hours. I always have to have music playing—usually the characters will let me know their musical preferences and I create a “soundtrack” for the manuscript based on the songs they “tell” me they like.
KH: Speaking as one of your characters, describe in a sentence or two what makes your partner irresistible.
DC: “My husband Mickey is a DEA agent. A true alpha. He’s sexy as sin, more honest than Abe ever considered, faithful as if I were the only woman on the planet. A he-man in the outside world and god in the bedroom.” Terese Flannery–Hunting Mickey (10/10)
KH: Please tell us about your latest release.
DC: Hunting Mickey will release from Champagne Books on October 5, 2010. I’m VERY excited about this book as it’s part of the Gateway Guardians series.
When all hell breaks loose, you know the honeymoons over–sometimes life’s a bitch
Agent Mickey Flannery is finally going to take his wife Terese on the honeymoon they missed five years ago. The plans are made, the plane is landed and they arrive to the news they’ve been chosen for an upgraded holiday–a week on a private island all amenities included.
The private beach soon turns into paradise lost when they learn their gracious host is none other than Rafael Lesandro Rivera, Ramiro’s son, and he’s out for blood.
Can Mickey keep Terese and himself alive long enough to find a way of escaping the man who them join his hunting party—as the prey?
