What is one of your favorite things about writing?
I love to surprise people! I am a sucker for a good red herring and least-expected outcomes. Making myself laugh or cry is another benefit I receive from writing.
What is one of your favorite ways to learn about your characters?
Playing with my characters is so much fun. When I write a paragraph and a naughty elf yanks on my sleeve and says, “I would SO not do that!” or laughs, “Hehehe, yep, that’s me!” I know to follow his advice.
What do you like best about writing erotic romance?
The best thing about writing erotic romance is that you get to write what you want to read. We all have our own little preferences when it comes to love and sex, and sometimes it’s hard to find the perfect read in this genre. Writing your own erotic romance takes care of that for you and it’s something you can always return to whenever you want to read it.
What are your favorite research resources?
When I started working as a managing editor for a nonprofit and my boss recommended Wikipedia, I scoffed that it was ridiculous to use it as a source. Now I probably visit the site daily, although I have found a few discrepancies now and then! Once, in a piece about hamsters that I was writing for a client, I saw that the Wikipedia page had something about how evil they are. It was a very tiny and sneaky, but it was there!
Do you find it harder to write novels or short stories?
Short stories are so much harder to write. I love to read them, perhaps even better than novels, but they have to be so much more selective and paced with precision to work.
Would you tell us about your latest release?
Reindeer Games: Sleigh Ride is so exciting for me because it is my first gay erotic romance book. It’s about two elves and their first date. There is tough, Bostonian Twinkle, who was Jack Frost’s right-hand man in my last holiday story, Letting Go; and there is Randy, the saucy sex toy developer at the North Pole. The date takes place in Santa’s Sleigh.
Do you have an excerpt from your latest release you would like to share?
Absolutely!
“We need to hurry, Jack,” Twinkle urged. “What do you want out of here?”
Santa’s workshop sparkled with every man and woman’s naughtiest dream. Shimmering vibrators with red-and-green gem-studded handles, satin blindfolds trimmed with purple fur, long feather wands that emitted a light holiday tinkle when shaken…
What would someone not want from this room?
The elf’s best friend, Jack Frost, glanced around the workshop, searching for something to help him win his lady love, the Snow Queen. Stumbling around in the semi-darkness, he wasn’t sure exactly what Jack hoped to find.
Twinkle wasn’t keen on the mission, as Jack had struck out with the icy queen dozens of times already, but what else was a best friend for? If he had to admit it, breaking the rules was pretty fun. Unlike the rest of the elves at the Pole, Twinkle hadn’t been born there. He’d transferred from the city after a few hundred years of public service.
Besides, he secretly hoped he would run into Randy, the gorgeous night shift Elf in the adult wing. The idea of Randy’s carefree smile, golden skin and sexy dreadlocks sent his stomach lurching. He nervously thrust a hand through his mop of black hair, eyes darting into the corners of the workshop to seek out the Elf in question.
Then again, he also half-hoped Randy would be off; not just so he and Jack could stay out of real trouble, but because even after a two-year crush on the Elf, the thought of speaking to him rattled his nerves to the core.
Before Jack could answer, a sinfully hot face popped out from beneath a table. “Well, hello, handsome and handsome,” the elf grinned.
Twinkle gulped. Randy.
Ruffling his curtain of dreadlocks as he stood, Randy regarded Twinkle with sparkling green eyes. His red work shirt was tucked snugly into his forest green Christmas work pants, stretching tautly across his lean muscles. He placed the rather large vibrator he’d been working on before them on the table. Twinkle stared with wide eyes, wondering if the tools were self-modeled in the workshop, then gave a little gasp.
Randy chuckled as if he could read the Elf’s thoughts. “Such naughty boys! What will Santa do when he hears about your little break-in?”
Twinkle turned red. “Look, Randy, I’m just helping Jack out…”He grimaced at the squeak in his Bostonian accent. His fingers itched to grab the red bandana in the back pocket of his jeans to wipe the sweat from his forehead, so he crossed his arms over his striped shirt. Feeling silly, he thrust his sweaty hands into the faded denim instead. Stay cool!
Randy raised his eyebrows. “Perhaps we could help him out together?” Although the Elf licked his lips, as if relishing the offer, his eyes never left Twinkle’s face. His message was loud and clear.
Twinkle’s mouth dropped. Did he just say what I think he said?
Jack blanched, shaking his white ponytail. He shoved his hands into the pockets of his blue hoodie. “I’m actually looking for something to help me convince the Snow Queen that we’re compatible,” he quickly explained.
Twinkle nodded vigorously to confirm Jack’s explanation. He hoped Randy understood that Jack was his best friend, nothing more.
“Whew!” Randy mimicked wiping his brow, his tawny hand swiping over a green-and-white striped hat. “No offense, Jackie, but you’re not my type. And I’m really not into sharing, either.” He winked at Twinkle.
Twinkle audibly gulped again, clasping onto the leg of his jeans for dear life. He could feel the pinch of his fingers against his leg but didn’t care.
Am I his type?
Was McDreamy Elf really into him?
