Good morning!
On June 11th, the Compelling Beasts Blog was 1 year old. To celebrate, guests have been stopping by to talk about their favorite villains and antiheroes. If you have a chance, please drop in and leave a comment about your favorites.
This week at Changeling Press, Scarlet Nights 1: Starving Artist is in the spotlight. If you missed this first story in Blair and May’s series, you can find out more about it at

At the moment I’m working on a new M/M contemporary romantic comedy about two guys hunting for Bigfoot. This story, called Knock on Wood, is scheduled for release by Changeling Press a bit later this year.
I hope you’re having a great weekend!

Scarlet Nights 2: Hungry Novice
by Kate Hill
Even from across the room, May’s gaze locked with Blair’s. He smiled and nodded in her direction as he and Hamilton made their way to the table. May rose to meet him. He pulled her into a firm embrace.
“How did everything go?” she asked. “You’re not injured again, are you?”
“No, but what’s this?” He gently touched her black eye, a look of scarcely repressed rage on his face. “How did that happen?”
“Merely a sparring accident.”
“Who did it?”
“Blair, it was an accident. I walked into Daria’s fist. How many times have you been mildly injured during fighting practice? It’s part of the risk.”
“I don’t like to see you hurt, that’s all.”
May nodded. If he reacted this way to an accidental bruise, how would she convince him to see her through the fever of Change?
“Are you hungry?” May asked. “We were just having dinner.”
“I think Daria and Hamilton have moved directly to dessert,” Blair remarked.
Hamilton had taken a seat at the table and Daria was perched on his lap, their mouths locked in a kiss better saved for the bedroom.
May gazed at him through her lashes. “And it looks rather delicious. Shall we go upstairs and indulge as well?”
“I think you’ve learned to read my mind without taking the Change.”
“Funny you should mention that.” She took his hand and tugged him toward the door.
“What do you mean?”
“I’d rather talk later and wrestle naked now.”
“I was right about this place being a bad influence on you, wife.”
“Do you think?”
“Fortunately, yes.”
