Character Interview with Liam O’Reilly
Where are you from? Philadelphia, born and raised.
What is your job? My actual job is working at Malone Repair with Conor, however, the unpaid job is hunting the paranormal nightmares that threaten to infest Philly.
Are you a people person or a lone wolf?
Hunters are the lone wolf type by birth—it’s written in the fine print of our birth contract: Thou shalt be a loner and mistrust everyone.
Do you have any special powers or skills?
Give me a knife and let’s dance. I’ve got the hunting, tracking, and killing skills my father and surrogate father trained into me my whole life, and I’ve also got the natural hunter’s ability to scent out different magical forms.
What is your main goal in life?
To protect those I love.
Do you or did you ever have a mentor?
My father, and then Patrick Malone. They were best friends and also the men who taught me to become the killer I am today.
Who is your greatest enemy and why?
Destrius—he was the bastard who brought me into the Order of the Serpent, the one who held my mom prisoner to ensure cooperation.
Who is your closest friend?
Samuel Karim. We were in the trenches together during our forced time in the Order. While Conor and I grew up together and used to be close, the whole lying to his face on a regular basis sort of killed our friendship there. I don’t know if we’ll ever get it back.
Who is your love interest?
The ever impatient Jev Brennan
What is your favorite thing about Jev?
I love the way she fights, on the field and off. When she gets her grip into something, she’s like a pitbull latching on, unwilling to let go. The woman wouldn’t think twice about storming to hell and back once she’s committed to a cause.
What makes Jev sexy?
Her honesty. She’s so raw, brazen, and open, and that was the first thing I fell for. That, and her knockout curves. I mean, the woman can wear a little black dress like no one’s business.
What is the most annoying thing about Jev?
How black and white she can be at times. A situation’s either wrong or right, and once she’s passed judgment, it’s near impossible to change her mind.
Describe Jev in three words.
Brazen, honest, loving
What was the last gift you gave Jev?
A better knife. The one she was carrying was a weaker construct, and with the amount we’re on the field and fighting for our lives, I want her protected with the best. Needless to say, she was delighted.
Where would you take Jev on a dream vacation?
She’s not a Carribean or relaxation sort of girl, so we’d probably backpack through Europe or maybe head to hike through Australia.
Do you have a secret fantasy?
Starting a family’s been a fantasy I’ve held secret for a long time. After all, I didn’t think finding someone was even possible for me, and I refused to indulge in the idea while my and my mother’s life was held hostage by Destrius’s control.
Describe yourself in three words.
Self-sacrificing, manipulative, and charming
Do you have pets?
I’ve sort of adopted D’Artagnan, Jev’s cat. He’s a sweet, affectionate thing.
Share a favorite memory.
Back before my dad died, every year on their wedding anniversary, they used to play the song they danced to at their wedding and just slow danced around the apartment. I think they didn’t realize I was watching, but every year, I peeked past my bedroom door when the music started to play. Hurts sometimes to think how in love they were, and how my mom’s had to suffer on without him.
What is your favorite food?
Prime rib and mashed potatoes.
What kind of music do you listen to?
Classic rock—stuff like the Stones, Kansas, AC/DC, Foreigner
What is your favorite way to travel?
On foot. I usually take public through the city and since I grew up here, I rarely drive. Out of the public transportation here, I prefer the train when heading out of the city. Though still, on foot is best. I don’t like ceding control to anyone else.
Name one piece of clothing you wouldn’t want to live without.
My button-down shirts. I’ve got too many to count, and it’s a nice offset to the blood-and-guts covered wifebeaters and tees I’ve worn to threads.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
“Dark days don’t last forever,” is something my mom always said through the rough times, and I’ve come to finally appreciate it.
If you could give your past self a piece of advice, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to reach out. The lone wolf tendencies that my father drilled into me were the reason I sacrificed myself to keep my mother safe. If I had known differently, to ask for help when I needed it, I might’ve been able to save both of us the heartbreak and terror.
What is your idea of a perfect date?
While I’ve spun plenty of lines about fine dining and walks along the beach, I’m experimenting with this honesty thing. If I had to be truthful, I don’t need fancy settings or scenarios to appreciate someone. Spending a day with Jev, just her, is my perfect date, where we’re embarking on whatever adventure we choose, whether it be tromping through Fairmount Park, driving outside the city to wander through the suburbs, or hell, even curling up on the couch and watching a movie.
What makes you happy?
Being around the folks I care about. I might be a suspicious bastard, but I treasure those times I can actually relax when I’m around those I love.
What makes you angry?
Unseelie. I’ve dealt with enough tragedy at their hands that I can’t stand the bastards.
How do you like to spend your free time?
Hunters don’t get free time is what Patrick would’ve trained me to tell you, but I’ve learned to carve some time for myself. I like to go to the movies once in awhile. It’s something I didn’t get to do often growing up, since I didn’t have the most normal of childhoods, so I like to go and escape once in awhile.
Do you prefer one lover or multiple lovers?
One, definitely. I had my fair share of lovers in the past, and I’ve hooked up with more than one at a time, but it didn’t do anything for me. Until Jev, I wasn’t able to open up to anyone, but she pushed her way past my borders.
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
When I was a kid, I was so pissed at my dad that I ran away for a week. Camped out in one of the abandoned houses in West Philly, and let me just say, it’s a fucking miracle I made it out alive. With the monsters that like to camp in those areas, human and supernatural alike, I definitely learned my lesson about running off.
Do you have any tattoos or piercings?
Nah, I’m pretty clean. Not that I wouldn’t consider it, but the interest has never gripped me to the point where I’ll trust a stranger to put permanent ink on my body.
About the Book
Title: Scrying for Summer
Author: Katherine McIntyre
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Jev was looking for an adventure, however she wanted the usual variety of stomping out nasty fae in the city as an enforcer of the Philly Coven. Instead, handsome as sin Liam O’Reilly shows up on her doorstep dropping news of the worst organization of fae they’d dealt with on the rise again. Except, he’s a traitor, an asshole, and the absolute last person she wants to work with.
However, the longer they work together, the more the fire between them burns, turning from rage and irritation into something primal. And as she gets to know the real Liam O’Reilly behind the charming smiles and sexy lines, he becomes so much deadlier. Because the protective, self-sacrificing man underneath his facade is just the sort she could fall for.
Author Bio
A modern day Renaissance-woman, Katherine McIntyre has learned soapmaking, beer brewing, tea blending, and most recently roasting coffee. Most of which make sure she’s hydrated and bathed while she spends the rest of her time writing. With a desire to travel and more imagination than she knows what to do with, all the stories jumping around in her head led to the logical route of jotting them down on paper. She writes novels with snarky women, ragtag crews, and guys with bad attitudes. High chances for a passionate speech thrown into the mix.
