What is one of your favorite things about writing?
Creating new worlds.
When you’re brainstorming for a new story, what usually comes first for you, the plot or the characters?
The characters.
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
I’m a pantser.
When you’re writing, who is more in control, you or your characters?
Good question. I have to say that ninety percent of the time the characters guide me.
Can you write sex scenes at any time or do you have to be “in the mood?”
I can write them at any time.
What do you like best about writing?
Getting lost in new stories.
What is the most difficult thing about writing?
Editing is brutal.
What do you like about writing series books?
I like continuing the storyline and getting glimpses of my favorite characters and how they’re doing in life, throughout the series.
What is one of your favorite ways to learn about your characters?
As the story thickens I look to see what my character will do and if it will make them grow, some you even want to see fail. I put them in certain scenes and see if that works for them.
What do you feel are some of the pros and cons of electronic publishing (instead of traditional print format)?
A pro is that you can now have access to any book, at any time, in any format.
A con is the fear that the new generations will never know the feeling of turning a crisp page in a new book.
What do you feel are some of the pros and cons of indie publishing?
A pro is that you’re less restricted. You can write what you want and publish it as is without the opinions of fifty suits telling you what they think is popular.
A con is less exposure and having to do the leg work for yourself. Of course, for me, that’s all the fun.
Where do you find inspiration for your stories?
Sometimes in music, other times it can be based on life or fantasies.
What do you like best about writing menage?
I do not write menage. I’m a jealous girl, I want my alphas with one woman.
What do you like best about writing erotic romance?
I guess you can consider some of the scenes I write as erotic. I think it’s the freedom of expressing your kinks however you want and knowing that there are fans out there who may enjoy them.
What are your favorite research resources?
The internet, friends…when it comes to crimes, the news.
What usually comes first for you, characters or plot?
Characters come first for me. If you have a really good character, you’ll follow them through any rabbit hole.
Do you find it harder to write novels or short stories?
Actually, short stories, I find I have a lot to say.
Would you tell us about your latest release?
Damian & Layla is the second the second couple in the Sunset Reads series. They are William & Cristina’s best friends. I wanted Damian to be the opposite of William. Less charm, more rough around the edges. He’s exciting and dark, and knows what he wants. Layla is a woman who has been hurt by love. She’s smart and is finally getting her life together when Damian shows up again. She suddenly finds herself running into the arms of the man she swore to stay away from, because he is the only one she trusts to protect her. There’s villains and lovers. It’s a thrilling story.
What are you working on now?
I am working on Sebastian & Daisy’s story in the Sunset Reads series.
Do you have an excerpt from your latest release you would like to share? Sure:
As she hurried to the back of the tent, a hand reached out for her and pulled her into the bushes. Before she could let out a scream, her mouth was covered and a deep voice whispered in her ear. “Don’t scream. It’s me.”
She immediately recognized Damian’s voice and more so the feel of his body pressed against her back. He slowly turned her to face him, all the while making sure to keep her in his embrace.
Layla looked up at him with wide eyes, “What are you doing here?” she breathed. “You scared the crap out of me!” She smacked him in the arm with her purse.
“What are you doing here?” he returned.
“I work here.”
“What?”
“I’m Sunset Reads’ new PR Director.”
His brow furrowed at her news, and then his eyes traveled lower, down her throat, over her collarbone, to the low-cut of the dress and the tempting view of her full breasts. He swallowed hard and it took everything in him not to take her deeper into the park and have his way with her.
“What the hell are you wearing?” His voice came out deep and husky.
She looked down at herself, and realized that Damian had a lovely view straight down her dress. She quickly squirmed out of his grasp and took a step back. “It’s called a dress, and stop looking at me like that!”
“Hey, it’s not my fault you look sexy as hell in that thing. It’s barely covering anything!”
Layla was grateful for the lack of light; that way Damian couldn’t see the bright blush on her cheeks. His eyes were all over her, but she secretly enjoyed the appreciation in them. It brought hot tingling sensations across her lower abdomen, and erased any semblance of Gus Schwartz’s dark leering glare.
She shook her head, trying to clear her lust-hazed thoughts and said slowly, “I asked you what you were doing here.”
He pressed a finger to her lips as a couple passed by and she stared at him with dark eyes. After a moment, he looked down at her. Seemingly distracted, he grazed her plump bottom lip with his thumb.
“I’m undercover,” he whispered.
A slight thrill ran up her spine and she looked around them into the dark night. “Are we in danger?”
“If Schwartz keeps staring at you like that he will be.”
“What do you care if he stares at me?”
“I care. I care a lot,” he said calmly but tightened his grip on her arms.
“You didn’t care for a whole year, Damian. What does it matter now?”
“Stay away from him, Layla, he’s not a good man.” He looked down at her once again, his eyes intense and his jaw held tight. After a long moment, he stepped around her preparing to leave.
“Wait!” she whispered, grabbing his arm.
He looked back at her, an eyebrow lifted, waiting.
She quickly released his arm. “Does William know about this?”
He shook his head. “No, and I prefer to keep it that way for now.”
“What? You have to tell him. He’s about to do business with him!”
She now had his full attention. “Are you sure?”
She nodded. “They were just talking about it. William wants Skyline to manage the technological advances at Sunset Reads. We’ve set up a meeting.”
“We’ve?” he asked
“I’m the Director, Damian. Who else is going to be his contact if not me?”
Damian frowned. “I’ll talk with William, but you… I need you to remain as far away from Schwartz as possible.”
She looked behind her towards the party. “I had a feeling he couldn’t be trusted. Tell me,” she turned back to Damian, “what did he do?”
Damian shook his head, looking off into the distance as if in thought. “Nothing that can be proven yet, but I have a feeling he’s connected to someone big. Someone who can hurt William and Cristina.”
“Damian?”
He looked at her. “Just do your job and forget I was here.” He quickly went back to the party, leaving Layla alone.
“If you only knew how hard that is,” she whispered in the empty space.
What three words would the hero of your story use to describe his love interest?
Delicate, rebellious, intelligent.
What three words would the heroine of your story use to describe her love interest?
Strong, rough, protective.
If the main characters in your latest release were invited to a masquerade party, what costumes would they wear?
I like this question.
Damian would wear all black, white shirt, no tie, a simple sleek black mask.
Layla would wear a vintage style red dress. Short up front, long in back, with a lace black mask and red lipstick.
What makes the hero of Sunset Reads: Damian & Layla hot?
That he’s not afraid to admit he screwed up, and he’s willing to do anything to get back the love he lost.
Would you give us a sneak peek at one of your upcoming releases? Sure. Here’s a small peek at Sebastian & Daisy’s story:
Daisy leaned against the wall by the water cooler and watched as Sebastian Hunt strutted down the hallway, grinning at each woman like he was God’s gift. She rolled her eyes and shook her head.
“Isn’t he absolutely gorgeous?” Shandra, Layla Reece’s admin, and Daisy’s best friend, whispered excitedly in her ear.
“He’s alright. If he wasn’t such a gigolo I’d probably be inclined to do a little more than look.”
“Oh, come on Daisy! Like you haven’t noticed the way he smiles at you. You’re the only one he actually talks to, you know.”
Daisy smirked. “That man doesn’t talk. All he does is flirt. He probably farts flirts.”
Shandra coughed and gave an unladylike snort as the water she was drinking went through the wrong pipe. She wiped her lips with the back of her hand and laughed. “He is a flirt. Mm, mm, mm, but he is yummy.”
Daisy watched as he walked over. He had an almost practiced, confident demeanor. A deliberate stride that made every woman turn to look at him as he stood tall and lean. She noticed as the fabric of his pants hugged at the muscles of his thighs, tightening just enough so she could make out the outline of his undeniably large assets. The suits he wore were tailor made to fit his broad shoulders, and tightened just right around the muscles in his biceps as he moved. He never wore a tie, always crisp white shirts with two buttons undone giving a glimpse of his tanned skin.
Now that was only his body, then there was his face. Light blue eyes that deepened or lightened depending on what color suit he wore that day. He wore his hair long, the back layers grazing just below the neckline, and the front waves were cut to graze against his cheeks. He had a strong jaw line with a slight cleft on his chin. His lips were firm, almost perfectly sculpted, and they created the most desirable crooked grin that would make any woman throw her panties at him. He had a small scar at the edge of his bottom lip, that made Daisy want to trace it with her tongue.
Daisy couldn’t deny that the man was sex on a stick. Nor could she deny the fact, that some of her most fervent orgasms had been caused by late night thoughts of his powerful frame slamming into her smaller one. Of course, she’d never divulge that secret to anyone. She’d probably go to the grave with that one.
She raised an eyebrow at Michelle, Sunset Reads receptionist, as she giggled when he passed by. And that, ladies and gentlemen, was why Daisy kept away. As much as her body may tighten when he was around, there was absolutely no way she was approaching that rabbit hole.
“Miss Duke! Here I thought I wasn’t going to get see you again today!”
“It’s Arias,” she corrected him, under her breath.
His attention wandered over to Shandra who was pressed up against Daisy’s side. “Shandra, my dear, don’t you look ravishing in red!”
And there it was, the icing on the cake, the piece de resistance, the panty melting deep timbre of his British accent that rolled off his tongue like butter. The man knew exactly how to work it, and the accent was the epitome of charm.
Do you have a favorite character or characters you feel especially close to?
Layla is one of my favorites. She’s based on my best friend.
Would you share one of the sexiest or most romantic lines from one of your books?
Damian stepped closer, bringing his chest against her back, his lips to her ear. “It drives me crazy to hear you laugh when he speaks, or when you touch his arm in reassurance. I don’t want your breasts pressed up against him when you lean in to whisper to him, I don’t want him near you. I won’t allow it,” he growled.
Layla turned her head slightly, “Good thing I don’t have to ask for your permission. You are not my keeper, you can’t forbid me to do anything!”
“The hell I’m not!” he growled, turning her towards him and crashing his mouth down on hers.

Title: Sunset Reads: Damian & Layla
Author: D.C. Triana
Genre: Romantic Suspense
One year.
It’s been one year since Agent Damian Trent left for Washington without a word.
One year since he’s seen her beautiful face.
One year since he’s heard his name on her lips.
He’s been recently called back to New York City on assignment, to catch a criminal who’s trying to infiltrate Sunset Reads. The last thing he expects is to work side by side with the woman he turned his back on.
Having her close is an unwanted distraction that he’s more than willing to ignore, if only she wasn’t so damn tempting.
Everything seems under control, until a night of feverish passion has him abandoning all thoughts of reason. Now, he will do everything in his power to get her back, and even more so to protect her.
Layla Reece wants nothing to do with the man who left her a year ago.
The man who took her heart with him, leaving her broken.
After a year of trying to forget Damian Trent, she is finally ready to move on.
But trying to forget him becomes a tedious task when he suddenly reappears in her life.
Although she fights to stay away, his magnetism is too strong and she finds herself giving into the deep timbre of his voice, and the strength and safety of his arms.
Staying away from Damian turns out to be futile, especially when his kisses consume her and his heart shatters the walls she spent so much time building.
Finding herself in danger, she now has to turn to the only man she trusts to keep her safe, but can she trust him enough to give him her heart once again?
