Excerpt:
Fat snowflakes created a fog-like thickness in the glow of the porch lights in front of the house John shared with his fiance, Earl Eli.
John had moved in two months ago, leaving his home and librarian career in England. While he missed his job and friends, moving to The States to marry Earl Eli was the best decision he had ever made.
John tore himself from the beautiful snowy scene to finish making breakfast. The kitchen smelled of coffee, eggs, and bacon. It was just four in the morning, but in New England, the life of a man with a snowplow started early. This was the first real storm of the season and John was ready.
Earl Eli shuffled into the kitchen. He wore thick winter socks and black, high-waisted, all-weather pants with the suspenders down, leaving his toned, lean torso bare. His thick, reddish-brown hair was in disarray.
“Good morning,” John said with a wide smile.
Earl Eli groaned and scrubbed a hand over his bearded jaw. “How the hell can you be so happy at this time of morning?”
“Don’t be grumpy. I’ve been waiting for this day.”
“What? A snowy hell in Maine?”
“No. Well… yes. Today I get to work the plow, right?”
“Oh, babe.” Earl Eli groaned again. “Not my plow.”
“You showed me how to use it and if we’re going to be partners –”
“We are. Just not when it comes to my plow. Get me some coffee?”
“Only if you rethink our domestic and career arrangements. We agreed that I would help run your business –”
“I thought you had a deadline?”
John had been lucky enough to sell the book he had written about their Bigfoot adventure to a major publisher. He was now under contract to deliver two more books. He was halfway through a documentation of their most recent adventure with a mysterious giant cat in England. “I’m well on track,” John said, pouring their coffee.
“Have you seen my thermal T-shirt?”
John reached into a laundry basket sitting on the kitchen island and tossed it to Earl Eli.
“That’s what I love about you. You’re efficient.”
John raised an eyebrow. “That better not be all you love about me.”
“Babe.” Earl Eli approached and pulled John into a firm embrace. Then he kissed him.
A glint in his blue eyes, Earl Eli said, “To show you how much I love you, I’ll let you drive my plow.”
“How about you let me plow you?”
Earl Eli’s smile broadened. “I guess we have time for a quick one.”
